Still no announcement, but take this for what you will...

  • Sources: Former #Packers coach Mike McCarthy is headed to Dallas to speak with the #Cowboys. The team has not announced anything on coach Jason Garrett, though they are expected to move on from him and are laying the groundwork for a search.

Uhhhh.... The 49ers were SUPER successful with him as the OC and the Bills went to the playoffs for the first time this CENTURY with him as OC. The Ravens are the best team in the league with him as OC. He makes teams run games elite. He makes mobile QBs better. Considering the Cowboys have a great run game and a mobile QB, Roman seems like a perfect fit.
Gadgetry impresses some people, no doubt.

The @Cowboys are not feeling obligated to clarify the future of Jason Garrett inasmuch his contract expires Jan 14, source added.

The good news interviewing any other HC means the clapping is officially over. The bad news is that Jerry hasn't figured out that Aaron Rodgers and his coat tails aren't coming with McCarthy.

So I go away for a week, and the shit hits the fan.

No question this has been one of the most puzzling situations ever, but I guess we shouldn't be surprised considering who owns and runs this circus.

At any rate, at least it looks like the Red Plague has finally been eradicated from our franchise.

I'll be the president of the GROZ Club here at DCU. I'm at the point where I'm counting how many years another bum coach might be here and what my expected life expectancy is.

Hey bucko know your place. Unless I decide to vacate the throne as official GROZ President, Founder and CEO you can't just weasel your way into that spot.

We can discuss making you VP or perhaps some other official role.

Above said, ESPN and others are reporting the Vikes intend to keep Zimmer and their GM regardless of what happens in the postseason.

Good riddance. I don't understand what anyone sees in Zimmer at all, and dude's HC record is basically the same as Garrett's. Half his seasons end in .500 records and his only playoff win is courtesy of one of the 2 or 3 biggest postseason fluke plays ever.

Yes, eventually, but the fact that he still has a key to the building is dysfunction personified. How long does it take to say goodbye or show "respect"?

I am not advocating for McCarthy, but supposedly he has spent the last year doing a deep dive into all sorts of NFL offensive schemes and play designs and has made that part of his HC interviews, apparently he is willing to adapt in an effort to have more success. Would like to see some of the names of people he might have on his staff as well.

I agree, it's truly bizarre. Until I saw this McCarthy report today I was still wondering if Jones wasn't somehow trying to find an angle to still keep the Clapper as coach, but if that report is true then surely Garrett is done. With that said I think the delay might be because:

1) For whatever reason, Jones truly did believe the Giants had interest in Garrett and he thinks delaying the release of Garrett might prevent him from going there.

Or:

2) They basically told Garrett he was toast UNLESS they couldn't get the coach they wanted, and told him then he might be allowed to stay 1 more year. Any coach with a spine or self respect would out and out reject anything like this, but we know Garrett doesn't have a spine.
