Ron Leary sends not so subtle message to Cowboys on Twitter
Dallas Cowboys guard Ronald Leary has been absent from the Cowboys' non-mandatory workouts this week after he requested a trade so he could have the opportunity to start for another team's offensive line as he has been relegated to mostly backup duties in Dallas.
In the middle of this holdout, Leary sent a not-so-subtle message to the Cowboys by changing his Twitter page and eliminating any and all references to the Cowboys on his social media profile, Adam Grosbard of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Previously, Leary's bio read, "Offensive Lineman for the DALLAS COWBOYS. Blessed For This Opportunity Wearin The Biggest Chip On My Shoulder EveryDay.. #CowboyNation."
He's since edited it to read, "Offensive Lineman in the National Football Leage.. Blessed For This Opportunity Wearin The Biggest Chip On My Shoulder EveryDay.. #LsUp #GodGotMe."
Leary also changed his profile picture from one of the Cowboys offensive line to him in a Captain America T-shirt. The only thing that remained the same is that he identified himself as still living in Dallas, Texas, but that's not much consolation.
Leary lost his starting job to La'el Collins lost season and is hoping for a change of scenery so he can start again elsewhere. But Thursday Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team was not simply going to give Leary away for nothing.
"We told Ron that he could certainly look around, but we're not in the business of letting go of good football players for little or nothing," Jones said Thursday. "We know it's disappointing when you've been starting and you're not. We'd hoped that he would look at it as 'let's come in here and compete.'"
