Daniel Jeremiah has his first mock draft out, he has Goff going 2nd overall to Cleveland, then has us at 4:

DAL Carson Wentz QB North Dakota St.

Comment: The Cowboys will get a chance to coach Wentz at the Senior Bowl and I think they'll fall in love with him.

He had Lynch at 15 to the Rams.

I'd need to review all the available free agents again, but I think if I were the Cowboys I might start thinking about spending free agent dollars on the defensive side of the ball, and then use most of the premium draft picks on the offense. They don't have to marry that idea, but if they take a QB at 4 they could be set up to get a stud TE and/or RB in rounds two and three. WR and a true return guy shouldn't be ignored either.

In free agency, they'd need to address the DT spot opp Crawford (and not by resigning Hayden with the intent to start him there), probably one LB spot (I wouldn't keep McClain, I'd sign a moderately priced guy to replace him) and then look at signing one or two DB's who could start (a CB and a SS). I'd dump Carr and think seriously about releasing Church due to his cost. Wilcox I'd keep as a backup SS. I'd consider resigning Claiborne if it were extremely cheap for us (and not more than a 1 or 2 yr deal)

and Eric Berry... /cmd

Barry back there with Byron Jones... hell of a safety tandem.

Get Scandrick back, sign a worthwhile free agent CB, and keep Claiborne as third option. The secondary gets immensely better... on paper.

Sturm loves the guy, and I'm starting to think this could be a real possibility.

He's an inch shorter than Lynch, looks very athletic in his own right, and I think his release is quicker and needs less tinkering.

yeah I think he is too raw for a top 10 pick.
I keep seeing this and also keep asking the air, "what college QB ISN'T "raw" as far as NFL level of play is concerned?"

They're all "raw" that's a subjective term.

Dallas passes on this guy, some other team drafts the "raw" guy either before us or slightly after us, and we'll watch the "raw" guy win Super Bowls somewhere besides Dallas.

He'll be the first QB to go, definitely in the top 10.

He's also already 23 and has only played one healthy year. I like him but the hype is getting ridiculous.

I guess the question is when would Wentz be ready to play versus when Lynch would be ready to play. I think they're both going to need to do some sitting to start off, simply because of competition levels they are coming from. Is Lynch's delivery so far behind Wentz that he needs longer to get into game action? If Wentz starts at 24, and Lynch starts at 23, I don't know that I'd worry too much about that. I don't think the differences between these guys is too much either way. Lynch being 2 years younger may be the deciding factor.

This doesn't consider Goff, because he's probably a clear option 1.

I will say this. If the team thinks Wentz or Lynch is a franchise QB, then they don't need to try to play the trade down game. They could trade down to 10-15 and end up missing out on both.

My thoughts as well. Plus the offense he is coming from looks more like a pro style attack, so he probably has some concept of a NFL-like passing tree and reads.

Will be very interested in seeing him in the Senior Bowl and read all the practice reports.
