It's not about free agency or our cap issues. It's about the players' mindsets.
Biggest indictment of the restructuring IMO.who gets playing time.
Who advocated dumping the entire team and starting over?
I'm simply asking how a GM can promise to make things uncomfortable and then go and guarantee that players who should feel some heat will be here for the next year plus, at least?
I think the problem is there are a certain number of people here who when they see the word "restructure" they automatically assume its some astronomical amount being guaranteed, when in fact some may be minor adjustments. Without knowing the details of what they did exactly its pretty lame to continuously complain about and assume the worst.
Also, some of the adjustments are converting all or a portion of base salary to signing bonus/guaranteed money, which isnt an issue if you know that player is going to be here anyway.
You shittin me?
You telling me that tomorrow your boss comes in and says, "dbair we're doing some financial restructuring. We're going to guarantee your salary for the next 10 years (to make it comparable given the average life span of a football player)."
You can now do whatever you want and it doesn't matter, you still get paid. You saying that's not going to affect your mindset in the slightest?
Come on. That's like saying if you won the lottery, you'd keep working your ass off like you do now.
I have? We're only going to continually spin our wheels if we try to keep the makeup of this roster largely intact.
Some of our core guys would be getting released if we were a team like ATL.
Sorry, I cant see ANY team "releasing" Tony Romo, Jason Witten or Demarcus Ware
Its beating a dead horse.
Until its actually a REAL issue, you are crying over spilt milk that MIGHT happen sometime in the future.
They weren't who I was referring to.
Guys like Ratliff, Scandrick, Austin. Those are the guys.
Those arnt core players anymore either nitwit
Uh oh. dbair used to call bullshit on it. Now it's a "might'.
.
Yeah, they are.
um, no...?So basically you think this is the first time anyone's ever gotten guaranteed money?
JFC people. Guaranteed money has been going on for a long time.
um, no...?
If that's what you got out of this thread, there's something wrong.
What we're doing is shifting some of the non-guaranteed portions of these players contracts into guaranteed money and spreading out the cap hit over a longer period of time. We are increasing these players cap hits for 2014, 2015 and so on while trying to decrease the 2013 cap hit. So instead of cutting these players when they've outlived their usefulness in 2014 and moving on, we're faced with the decision of cutting the player when they're done and spending part of our cap towards their still-guaranteed money (dead money) or retaining a declining player on the roster.
