He's going to see if the Cowboys can pay him, you know Seattle's the front runner unless Marinelli can convince him to sign with us.

Melton Back To DFW, Visits Cowboys On Monday
By Mike Fisher

IRVING, Texas – Contrary to reports on Saturday night that had Henry Melton “finalizing a deal’’ while visiting the Seahawks, the prized free-agent defensive tackle has returned to DFW and the Dallas Cowboys remain among his suitors as they plan a visit at Valley Ranch on Monday.

spills over into early next week.

Multiple teams are bidding on Melton, 27, a Pro Bowl talent who is an ideal Dallas fit as a 3-technique tackle playing under his old Chicago mentor, Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli. The Cowboys have about $7 million in cap room available but could create more should they opt to make financial moves elsewhere on the roster.

Minnesota is among the clubs that has chased Melton, a native of Grapevine and a product of the University of Texas.

If Dallas wins the bidding war, Melton would replace tackle Jason Hatcher. The Cowboys need defensive-line help due to the departure of Hatcher (to the Redskins) and DeMarcus Ware (to the Broncos). The team is also hoping to retain defensive end Anthony Spencer.

End Jared Allen is also on Dallas’ wish list should his market dry up but he is reportedly considering retirement if his offers don’t represent the right fit.

Well, seeing he didn't sign with Seattle which is the best team in the NFL, I truly believe he's leaning towards retirement. He wants to get paid and we don't have the money he's asking for. Unless Marinelli can talk him into signing for a cheap 1 year deal.

Totes love the idea of signing a player considering retirement. #eyeroll

Regarding Melton, isn't there a mid round dt prospect that is basically a mini-Melton? Kinda smallish dt that used to play rb and is pretty quick? We should just draft that guy around early if we don't get Donald.

I bet Jerry is showing him the trophies and winking at him. Stephen is farting around with a calculator, occasionally scratching his ass. Red-headed grandkid is picking his nose in the corner, biding his time when it is all his.

My theory is if there are at least 3 DL who can get at least 7 sacks. The defensive pass pressure is sufficient. Just need a DT for 7 sacks (like Melton) and a DE capable of 7+ sacks, Allen (coupled with Selvie) and the pressure should be at a good starting point before the draft. Run defense may stink.

Think there is a chance that Urlacher could make a come back?

#Cowboys met with free agent DT Henry Melton on Monday but nothing is in the works at the moment, a club source said.

Thank god he saw the x rays on Shaun Rogers and drafted Tony Dixon instead.
