Jason Witten will meet with doctor on Tuesday, reamins in ‘idle mode’

ARLINGTON – Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is uncertain of when he’ll return to the field but meeting with a doctor Tuesday is the next step in gaining information on when that might be.
Witten, who suffered a lacerated spleen on Aug. 13, said Thursday that every day he feels better but remains in “idle mode” until he is cleared.
“Still, there’s a lot of uncertainty out there right now for me,” Witten said after the Cowboys held their Silver and Blue Debut practice at Cowboys Stadium. “Again, just got to let it heal up. I’m sure we’ll evaluate it next week, see where we’re at and go from there.”
Witten has not been ruled out of the team’s season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 5. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said results from Witten’s blood work have showed positive signs in the healing process.
“Everything’s going fairly well,” Garrett said. “Hopefully, we can get an OK from that (Tuesday meeting). But this is all normal within the process of what we thought right from the outset.”
