Sheik making the same mistake the Jags did.

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/20665/free-agency-day-2-catch-me-if-you-can

Because the Jaguars got fooled by Robinson's 2011 season, that's why. They saw a player who is yet to complete a single healthy season put up excellent numbers as a second or third wideout within a great offense and mistook it for skills that they somehow didn't notice six months earlier. The Jaguars talked themselves into thinking that Robinson is a burgeoning talent with huge upside, capable of dominating teams in the red zone and downfield for long touchdowns, and they fell for that simplest of statistical quirks: the small-sample-size fluke.

Robinson had 54 catches for 858 yards last year. Those aren't incredible numbers — roughly similar to the production of Jerricho Cotchery (57-821) or Terrell Owens (55-829) in 2009, and neither of those guys got big-money deals in free agency.

The big difference between Robinson and his peers is that 11 of his 54 catches resulted in touchdowns. That's a touchdown rate of 20.3 percent. It's totally unsustainable. Since 1990, there have been 20 other wideouts who caught 30 passes in each of two consecutive seasons and had a touchdown rate of 20 percent or greater in year one. Not even one of them improved their touchdown rate in the second year. During their second seasons, those guys caught touchdowns on 10.1 percent of their receptions. Robinson's touchdown rate is going to plummet next year, and it's not going to be because he's playing poorly. It will be because the Jaguars were expecting him to repeat something that isn't repeatable.

so basically cut his TDs in half and we're paying 9.4 mil for a mediocre 3rd WR + a long term contract for Spencer's JAG replacement.

idk seems bad man.

I like to think that Dez is about to make that 3rd year leap.

Spencer is probably top 6-10 at his position. Can you say the same for Robinson? Is he even top 30-40? Granted there are alot more WRs but still.

I think he has Zeno chance of putting up similar numbers with the Jags. They suck. And Tony Romo doesn't play for them.

ur gonna feel silly when Dwayne Harris catches 7 TDs for us making 500k or some shit.

Tony Effing Romo. We don't need to spend for #3 wideouts Tony will just make someone else rich.

Robinson is easily replaceable.

In fact, we averaged more points per game in 2010 than we did with Robinson in 2011.

And QB's only threw for a combined 2 more TD's in 2011.

Which is to say, while one guy might not be getting 11 TD's (Robinson)... his production is being spread out to other receivers.

I'll be suprised if Robinson ends up with 11 TD's during his entire Jaguars career.

You guys are both crazy if you think the money is being better spent on Spencer than it would be on Robinson.

I agree.

Robinson had some seriously good chemistry with Romo, and that is hugely important when it comes to a passing game. It's also rare that the chemistry develops that quickly between a WR and QB. I would much rather have Robinson as Spencer if the money is the same or even close.

its not like the choice was either/or. It's like either/or and.

If your argument is we should have let both walk, ok I can see that, but that option still leaves us giving JAG Wimbley a multi-year deal.

Without using the words chemistry, same page, right place/right time, What is Robinson good at?

I agree.

it's like he knew exactly where to stand in place in the end zone while Romo ran for his life.

Without using tackles running back, what is Spencer good at?

Cant use the word "almost" either.

Are you seriously dismissing the importance the chemistry between a WR and his QB?

If so, this should get good really quickly.

There's a difference between being a good receiver and a receiver who Tony Romo makes look good. One is worth 9.4 mil or a multi-year deal, one isn't.

Is it because of Tony that Austin looked so good early on?

Serious question.

I'm sorry sunshine, where did I say Anthony Spencer was any good? You're propping up a shitty idea w/ your worse idea.

We have 9 good players. The rest are interchangeable. History bears this out when our guys hit FA and are forced out if the league or never produce
