I really think they believed if we did all this heavy lifting with the Israeli's that the Iranian people would take matters into their own hands and overthrow the government. Trump was practically egging them on to do it the first few days of the bombings. For whatever reason they didn't grab the bull by the reigns
Because they are truly peaceful people not murderous Islamic pigs or US inner city hood rats.

irregardless, we knew the Mullahs, et al in Iran were lying sacks of shit and any deal would only be kicking the can down the road, I would have rather invaded Iran than Iraq (even at the time)
There was simply no political will or stomach for it prior to Oct. 8th I agree there should have been but there REALLY should have been back in 1979 if we're honest. Lots of can kicking went on after Carter including lots of leftist Israeli regimes who believed they could coexist through pacification and sacrifice.

post 911, the country wanted blood and Bush et al could have made a better case to go after Iran than what they used to justify Iraq. Since 2010 (ish), I'd agree

Iran never entered the equation back then. You know that. You're Quentin Tarantino operating from total knowledge of future events.

your memory has gone to shit or you're being willfully ignorant, whatever the case, I simply dont agree with your assertions on this issue or your assessment of my take on the past

Less than 6 months from 9/11/01 and a year before we invaded Iraq, Bush at his State of the Union address on January 29, 2002 said:

"...North Korea is a regime armed with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.

Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom.

Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens -- leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections -- then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.

States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic...."

People, me included, were seething, wanting revenge, it was the perfect environment to nip that bud. We had issues with Iran starting in 1977, Beirut bombing in 82 (?), proxies throughout the Middle East not to mention the massive human rights abuses that still exist to this day, all of which were easily verifiable at the time not just in retrospect

Spilled milk now, I just hope they finish the job and dont waiver on the unconditional surrender as anything less that leaves the IRGC/Mullahs in charge will merely kick the can down the road yet again and make the next confrontation exponentially more deadly (imo)

You confuse rhetoric and actual policy. As I pointed out earlier, there were many and myriad doves considering Iran. Starting with more than a few leftist Israeli regimes. Appeasement. Us and Israel too. Regardless of rhetoric. It was kick the can period.

I haven't disagreed, I simply know the difference between empty rhetoric and actual policy. There was never an actual policy to remove that regime. Read Dubya's book "Decision Points" he says it about as plainly as can be said.

And now, today, I'm not all that sure much has changed. Is Trump committed to removing the Islamic regime in Iran or is he just teaming with the Israelis to cripple it up for awhile? Just much more expensive can kicking?
