This is an 80-20 issue, if not more. I respect the fact that you're taking the time to email and communicate with Thune and your elected reps and let them know your feelings but from my view, knowledge of where the electorate stands is not an issue here. It's been widely reported, even on CNN, that Americans overwhelmingly support voter ID. The main issue is that Thune won't take the necessary steps to get the law passed. Simply bringing it to the floor for a vote is just a mirage........all Republicans will vote even if they oppose it because they know full well they don't have 60 votes.

Harry Reid started this mess when he nuked the filibuster in 2013 when it suited the Dems but I take issue with people like Thune, Cornyn, the Turtle and others not taking the same steps on such an important issue. If elected representatives can't pass an 80-20 plus issue that a large majority of Americans support, then our system fails the people.

So you asked what I've done to counter the non-sense. Beyond voting, I donated monthly to the RNC, as well as specific candidates I liked such as Trump and Keri Lake even though Lake wasn't in my state. I've raised 3 children to respect the country and they're die hard conservates. I've recruited other voters from my family and energized them to vote when they never did. Election Day at my house is like getting the troops ready to storm the beach. I make sure everyone gets to our precinct and we vote as a block. In addition, I still donate to conservative causes routinely and monthly in the case of TPUSA.

Now you may not like that I'm critical of North Mexico but I don't talk big like "everything is big in North Mexico" and act like my state is the lynch pin for Republicans (that distinction has gone to Florida thanks to their governor has done a good job). And all that talk gets you guys like Cornyn, Jerry Jones, Abbott, Crenshaw and other loons who thrive in North Texas. And after all the BS with Cornyn, 41% of Republicans still voted for him in the primary and forced a runoff. In any linchpin state, Cornyn would have lost the primary by double digits. Same with Crenshaw who got more than 40% of the Republican votes in the primary.

Mad respect to anyone that calls or emails their reps. But as I just replied to Yim, this is an 80-20 issue. The problem is not that Thune doesn't know where Republicans AND a large majority of the country stand. The issue is that he's an establishment RINO and he and others need to be (electively) purged from the party.

I think you need to mention tanking the filibuster. This RINO will bring it to the floor knowing he won't get 60 votes and he'll do it for appeasement and show. But if he forces a talking filibuster, it may have a chance. In addition, he's covering for the rest of the RINO's who will vote for it knowing it won't get 60 votes. But have them vote for it during a talking filibuster. this will weed out the treasonous rats.

Just put the bill up for a vote. At least get Democrats on record as opposing voter ID before the mid-terms. Make them defend their position in debates and on their campaign tours. Doing nothing takes them off the hook.

Looks what's happening now. Republicans are getting the blame for not passing the save act. The reason they are not voting for it is they don't have 60 votes. Why is that? Because not a single Democrat is committed to vote for it. But Republicans are to blame. Just put it to a vote. Let Democrats vote against it them hammer then for their nay votes.

I’ve been admittedly and perhaps irresponsibly uninvolved with politics and government like many far more qualified and talented Americans than myself. As a result, it appears the absence of good people who love the country has left a power vacuum filled by lunatics, it may be too late or impossible to make a difference but I’d at least like to try to throw a few effective drops in the bucket of positive change vs being the useless critic Teddy Rosevelt described:

If there was a tone of snark on my end it was coming from what appeared to be all criticism and no solutions passed along with said criticism on your part, I’m fine with criticizing texas but tell us what we should be doing while you’re at it

I am very busy and what time I take, I want to be effective so I guess I’m to conclude you think reaching out to Thune is a waste of time and completely ineffective?

What can we do beyond cast a vote and hope for change? Volunteer as poll watchers? Donate money? Go to town halls and make your voices heard? Sure we can send emails and call our senators and congressmen but what's become apparent since at least 2020 is that these fucks don't govern for the will and vote of the people; they govern to maintain power and there's a big difference. If they cared what any of us thought, these 80-20 or 90-10 issues wouldn't exist.

In any event, I get where you're coming from. I really do and it's frustrating. But this is also a message board and the dialogue, the critique, the banter and even the good humored insults is what it's about. I don't think anything we say here makes a bit of difference and, if it did, Jerry would have changed a long time ago.....but I just like communicating with similar old timers.

We were a nation founded on Christian principles. A lot of stuff that is wrong today is because of public school leftist indoctrination. This was not how schools were run way back when, when daily prayer and Pledging Allegiance to the Flag were part of what we did.

I fully support having this be part of all our schools and if the Allah lovers/ religion of peacers are offended, they can kiss my ass. Don't want to assimilate? Then don't fucking come here.

my proclivities commiserate with what you're saying but my perception of the practical reality of where we are as a country is that we are no longer a country who is a devoutly following Christ and those who do are divided by seemingly endless variations of the faith (catholic, baptist, methodist, whatever insane kind of lutheranism Talarico has dreamed up, etc, etc) not to mention other religions, atheist, etc so in an effort to keep those groups from using the same ability to promote Christianity within government & schools as a basis for forcing their beliefs within the same institutions, I'd prefer to keep them all out, drastically reduce the size of government to only that is what is essential and revamp the education system to promote competition and freedom of choice, etc, etc

problem is it doesn't matter what either of want or who is right, neither of us will get what we want on this subject

the good thing is no one can stop either of us from praying and pursuing our faith, I suspect if more of us did that and didn't worry about the spec in our brothers eye, these problem would naturally take care of themselves
