Pretty good video on the Taiwan problem. My first question which does not require an answer is, how did we let Taiwan become a single point of failure for the global economy, and more importantly, national security?

I have no doubt if China has a plan it will be to blockade Taiwan when the time comes. It does China no good to invade and fight a bloody and destructive war in Taiwan if the result would be turning the chip manufacturing industry into a pile of rubble.

The US is doing the smart thing by trying to replicate some of what Taiwan does here in the US. We don't have to take it over completely, but having the capacity to produce 50%, or even 30% of Taiwan's chips certainly benefits our national security and independence.

As for war with China, I think we will find out quickly how surface navies are becoming obsolete. We saw the start of this in the Falkland war when an Argentine missile, made by the French, destroyed a British ship easily.

If China really has hypersonic antiship missiles, we will seem the same result against US warships.

Lastly, I wonder if the people in the US would even have the stomach for a war over Taiwan, no matter what the stakes? I get the feeling 30% of the country would take China's side.
