Then there is the argument about Greenland's geographical location and its strategic importance. Certainly having Chinese bases in Greenland would be a threat to the US, but why would Denmark, a NATO ally, allow China to build bases in Greenland? And what actions has China taken or insinuated that would lead us to believe they want a base in Greenland? None as far as I have researched. The same argument applies to Russia, only Russia is less in need of Greenland since they can already fly directly over the North polar region to reach the US. Furthermore, the US already has bases in Iceland, a close neighbor of Greenland.

And this argument, as I have stated before, can be made about Russia and Ukraine and China and Taiwan? Ukraine sits on Russia border and many Ukrainians speak Russia as their natural language. Imagine Russia's argument when NATO threatens to put bases in Ukraine.

None of us here even gave any thought to earth minerals prior to the Trump administration. We were solely dependent on China who most probably bought/bribed numerous US politicians. If Trump says we need control of Greenland for national security, I believe him. I mean, do we really want to trust the Europeans? The same Europeans who were buying Russian oil and funding the war in Ukraine? All the while wanting to drag the US into the conflict? Fuck the Europeans.

I lived in Europe for 4 years with my wife and first child. Don't fool yourself....they hate us (America). The whole purpose of the European Union was to compete with the US. They just want us for a security blanket and we give it to them while they stab us in the back. Their utopian socialist societies where they want to have 4 day work weeks, month long vacations in August, "free" healthcare, "free college" etc while the US bears the burden of their security. Fuck them. Trump sees right through this and warned them in his first term about their treachery like buying Russian oil and they laughed at him. I'm of European decent but I have no great love for the Europeans.

And while I'm at it....who's Denmark? What the fuck to they bring to the table? All these countries weren't even paying for their own NATO defense and I've read where the Chinese were branching into Greenland and making deals (maybe mineral deals). Just Google "do the Chinese have mineral deals with Greenland?"

And this idea that we could "work out a deal with NATO for bases" is bullshit. We used to have a large naval base in Athens and the Greeks shut it down and kicked the Americans out, all the while wanting us (America) to protect them from Turkish incursions into Greek territory. Fuck these people. Trump wanted permanent and long lasting demands/deals and I think he got them. He knows he can't count on the Europeans and he's absolutely right.

Fuck the Euros. Like you said they cannot be trusted, they are not our friends. They only care about the USA being their global ATM and then if they fuck up and get into trouble, they need the US military to bail them out.

Trump has been right about NATO and the Euros in general since day one.

Gosh dang Creeper....now I'm angry. While NATO has been expanding, this has been in coordination with the expansion of the European Union. Europeans want to add countries to compete with the US and they know full well we'll defend them even though they're competing against us. Forget NATO for a second.....there are 5 EU countries that now border Russian and many of the EU countries were once part of the Soviet Bloc.

There is a far larger discussion to be had here about Greenland and it's not as simple as making deals with these backstabbers who promote their own self interests at the expense of the US and US taxpayer. Fuck them.

Oh....and don't you and others think that the Europeans will soon be extinct? You don't think Trump sees where this is going long term? They'll no longer be Europe and in a few short years the Muslims will have taken over almost every segment of their society. The EU will be destroyed of it's own doing and you think we can trust these people long term? I don't know if I've said it yet but.......fuck Europe.

I can't really disagree with most of what you say, especially about the Europeans hating us, although not all European countries hate us, just the big ones like France, Germany, and even Great Britain. Countries like Poland as still loyal to us. In fact, the countries that were once part of the Soviet block seem to understand things better than the dumbasses who have been protected by the US since the 1940s.

My thought was not to deal with NATO on bases, but make a deal directly with Greenland or Denmark.

I think what Trump is not saying is that Europe is a lost cause. They are allowing themselves to be consumed slowly by their enemies - Muslims and Communists - although it will be fun to see how those two factions work things out. In any case, once Europe fall we will need a buffer and Trump thinks that should be Greenland - at least that is my thinking.

And btw, Europe can hate us if they want. I already hate most of them. And I include the Australians in that too. They hate us know also.

man, how fast things change

I graduated from college in 1988, sold everything I had and traveled around the world. The US was universally loved everywhere I went, I was treated like a rock star in places like Thailand and the places that REALLY loved the US were the Soviet bloc countries I went to (Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia--that's what it was when I went, Romania, Bulgaria). I was also welcomed in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong & Japan although it was more difficult to understand the language, etc that was certainly the vibe I got.

The only western European country that was non-welcoming was France which we bolted from within 2 days but they were always known to be difficult if you didn't speak the language but welcoming if you tried.

I stayed in peoples houses 70% of the trip, welcomed into homes and fed by people from Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Great Britain, Austria, Germany & Japan; it was fantastic.

I love Europe (at least what it was like when I was there), its a damn shame if all the love, history and beauty is lost
