This is the day that I knew Emmitt Smith was gonna wind up in Canton.

I recall that game/moment as yesterday. Just as the big Leon Lett bozo play vs Miami in Dallas on that weird snowy day in Big D. My 3rd biggest Oh No moment was this. Switzer was called "a clown" for calling the same, I formation, twice.

Picture it. It was December 10th, 1995, and an average squad from Philly met the SB favorites, Cowboys in a divisional clash at Veteran’s Stadium. The names & faces were different as a Rhodes-led Eagles team tried to outdo Switzer & the Cowboys. Dallas should have walked all over the Eagles that day. Instead, they let them hang around. It was one of the greatest moments of "The Vet" & Eagles biggest defensive stand in history.

I'm sorry, but when you have a Back with 3 SB wins, SB MVP etc... you would have done the same. If not, you're not being honest w/yourself. Had it worked, Switzer would have been a hero instead of "a clown".

Switzer was a dumbass and takes a lot of heat for many things (including this). Most of the heat he deserves but this case I actually think he did the right thing.

We had the best RB and OL in the league and needed less than a yard. People also forget that it was extremely cold and windy that day (especially by that point in the game) and we'd have been punting right into the gusty wind. Philly likely would have gotten good field position anyway.

He also thought he was showing confidence in his team to get the job done and thought it'd light a fire under the team. (we were coming off a bad loss to Washington the week before, and in this game didnt play particularly well to that point either) Those are the two reasons he went for it.

We still got the ball back with plenty of time to win or tie the game. I think this is the game Aikman got sacked on the last play against a prevent defense and after it he fired the ball at Erik Williams and you could clearly see him say "it's a fucking 3 man rush" or something along those lines.

Load Left was the equivalent of today's "Brotherly Shove" back then. Very seldom stopped even when the defense knew it was coming. We took a trip to Switzerland that day.
