Tony Romo changes agent

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has switched agents. Romo left Ken Kramer and recently signed with R.J. Gonser with Creative Artists Agency Sports. Gonser was a marketing agent for CAA Sports before deciding on being an agent.

Gonser needed to get certified by the NFLPA before representing Romo in any contract talks.

Gonser didn't return a call seeking comment and Romo was unavailable to discuss switching agents.

A few weeks ago, Romo, with two years remaining on his contract, held preliminary discussions with the Cowboys about an extension. (Comment on Doug Free chopped out, all you guys are suckers)

In 2007, Romo signed a six-year contract extension worth $67.4 million with $30 million guaranteed, but since then the contract has been amended for salary cap reasons. His base salary for 2012 is $825,000 and he's scheduled to make $11.5 million next season.

A few weeks ago, Romo was asked about his contract status and said, "I haven't even thought about it."

Through three games, Romo has completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 841 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. He's been sacked seven times.

Is this for real??

Why the hell would Jerry say that?

WAY TO GO ROMO! He fucking knows what we all know: that Free is SHIT! Or shit is Free?

Jerry, why would you be so insistant on forcing a guy on Romo, that Romo is uncomfortable with? So you would risk losing Romo, just to keep Free? WOW! I wouldn't believe this if this was any other owner/GM.

I'm sure a team like Arizona or SF would be willing to pay Romo top 5 QB money.

I don't understand what the incentive for him to stay would be if Jerry remains committed to this oline and Garrett.

He could easily pull a Lebron and get the hell away from this shithole that Jerry has created.

Man I hope not. But we all know Jerry. Let's see... a top 10 franchise QB in Romo OR... an RT that would not start for any other team?

On to the next one: Tony Romo
Submitted by Syndicated sources on September 26, 2012 - 12:39pm

Earlier this week, Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com reported that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has changed agents. Watkins wrote that Romo was formerly represented by Ken Kremer (although he misspelled Kremer’s name) and will henceforth be under contract with R.J. Gonser.

While Romo’s change will be reflected on his Standard Representation Agreement, it may not be all that big of a deal. Kremer has represented Romo for many years. In 2008, when Romo was dating Jessica Simpson, her father even put forth an effort to have the quarterback fire Kremer and hire him to negotiate his deals. That was surely a futile effort. At the time, Kremer was a part of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the same agency that the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) lists Kremer with today. It is also the same agency where Gonser is employed.

So what exactly is going on here? Is Kremer still under contract with CAA? It appears rather odd that a player would switch from one agent to another within the same company. Is it that Kremer is phasing out his practice? These are questions that I have asked CAA, but have not yet received a response.

Update (10:28 a.m. EST) - An NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor who is not affiliated with CAA has informed Sports Agent Blog that Kremer recently left CAA and is going to be selling disability insurance. Still no response from CAA.
