I don't think it's a great idea either

But. If we sign spencer, it gives us a much better chance to draft an OL in round one. This is an offensive league. We need to build that oline

Jerry has to show everyone that he can hit on first round picks.

It won't be a big deal letting him leave. Losing Randall Godfrey hurt, but he won't.

For example, let's examine the Eagles' situation. Philadelphia has enough salary-cap room to tag Jackson, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be donning midnight green in 2012. ......
......

So it sounds like they need to clear $30M in cap room to tag & trade spencer.

Romo and Carr deals can get us like $18M I think . Seems unlikely they can get there especially if Free is a June 1 cut.

If they can Id think they can get at least a 3rd out of him

Do not like.

Not only do we lack salary cap space this year, but the cap isn't likely to increase very much over the next few years.

So we'll be up against it when people like Sean Lee and Dez Bryant need to be resigned.

It sounds like the team is in a panic mode, knowing Romo only has 2-3 years left, Ware/Witten are getting up there, and Monte Kiffin is going to be dead soon.

Jerry always plays it year to year. No long term plan which is why these comments about driving across water and stuff scare me.

I kind of thought the 4-3 move was designed, at least partially, to rationalize letting Spencer go.

If we re-sign Spencer, then I don't think we need to go DL in the first round. At least not force it....

DE - Ware
DT - Hatcher
DT - Ratliff
DE - Spencer

DE2 - Crawford (played it at Boise State)
DT2 - Price
DT2 - Lissemore
DE2 - Bass

Of course, you're going to want to add youth there, but again, I think the team has other pressing needs than depth along the Dline.

agreed...offensive line is priority #1 - this is a scoring league...10 points at the half every week isnt going to cut it

Big mistake giving money to spencer.

Let him walk, we got a great compensatory pick in 2014.

Do what everyone else does, go find payers in the draft. Every year teams find edge rushers.

The team has already made this mistake in barber and Roy Williams .

Btw I was on board with resigning both of them, so I am probably wrong here too.

its easy to say its a big mistake...i kind of feel that way too

but this team has shit for pass rushers as it is

combine no pass rush and the tampa 2 defense and you will have shit for results

id much rather use our 1st rounder on the OL than on a pass rusher...thats the only argument for keeping spencer

That part is unavoidable. Did we have all the parts for a 3-4 when Tuna took over? No. Transitions like that can take years (longer if you draft poorly). At the moment, we have too many square pegs (Spencer, Crawford, Hatcher, Sensy) trying to be pounded into a round hole.

i dont think the fit is as bad as you are making it out to be

but our pass rush fucking sucks...thats for sure

Spencer is your second best pass rusher, you let him go and you open up another spot that needs filled when there are so many holes already! You sign him and you risk him not living up to the contract because the guy has shown to be lazy and mediocre for most of his career. They guy also brings no leadership to the table.

I just don't see the logic in paying a guy millions in the "hope" that he can make the transition to the 4-3.
