By GERRY FRALEY / The Dallas Morning News
The defense had a clear edge over the offense in passing drills during the opening workout.
The defense had interceptions by linebackers Victor Butler and Anthony Spencer. Seven passes were deflected. Cornerback Terence Newman led the defense with two passes deflected. Michael Hamlin and Patrick Watkins, both of whom entered camp behind Alan Ball in the depth chart at free safety, also made plays.
"We were getting hands on balls, picks [interceptions] to the house," Newman said. "The easiest way for us to get better as a team is for us to get more turnovers."
The Cowboys had just 13 interceptions in the last two seasons, second-lowest total in the league.
