Mo Claiborne Playing with New Found Confidence

After a 2013 that saw Morris Claiborne struggle so mightily that he lost his starting job to Orlando Scandrick, one might assume that the third-year cornerback’s confidence was shaken somewhat. But that’s not the case, apparently.

Cowboys secondary coach Jerome Henderson says he’s seen a highly confident Claiborne throughout OTAs, as he competes alongside Scandrick and Brandon Carr.

“I agree with that. That’s his mindset,” Henderson told the team’s official website. “He’s working hard to get better and get ready for opening day. But I like the way he’s come back.”

Claiborne will certainly get his chance to boost the coaching staff’s confidence in him. Thus far this offseason, Henderson has been rotating his top three cornerbacks so that each guy gets more or less an equal number of reps.

“We’ve got three corners who we think are starting-caliber corners,” Henderson said. “We’re just rotating those guys and getting them all reps and getting them ready to play. We knew that last year. That hasn’t changed.”

He's going to suck until his contract year, where he'll play well and Jerry will make him rich and then he'll go back to being a jag.

Still hopeful him and Carter can turn into something. High draft picks.. This defense needs them to turn out.

Carter's turn around will help this team out more than Claiborne's turnaround. And this is even before Lee went down. The Claiborne pick was a lousy one. I hated it then.

Yeah, he sucks.

I don't know how he makes it to practice everyday as dumb as he is.

How does he suck? We drafted him for a 3/4 man on man scheme then fired the DC and went with a 4/3 zone coverage. Same goes for the other corner everyone rags on.

I think he's going to be pretty good this year.

I actually think with a good pass rush he'd look a lot better because he does have good ball skills and he'll intercept some passes. But that doesn't mean he'll actually cover any better, or be a good tackler, or stop getting hurt 10x a year. (And does anyone expect us to have a good pass rush anyway?)

And to lons... We played plenty of man coverage last year. I don't know why people act like we played all zone. Plus the front doesn't matter to what he's doing. I think he'd be best as a zone corner because he can keep his eyes on the ball, but he has to be smart enough to learn it and willing to tackle.
