He no-showed today and formally requested a trade.

What do you think the Cowboys have been trying to do with your ass lately?

I never liked the dude in the lineup. Always felt he and not Free, held the line back from reaching it's true potential. Dude isn't athletic and/or smart enough.

Cowboy fans have been overrating his trade value for about a year, probably because of Jermey Parnell.

If we got a 5th for him, I'd be shocked.

That's what i think they are shooting for. He's a good Guard on most teams. Not here obviously but I bet the Steelers would love him. Baltimore, Seattle, Arizona, Houston, Cincy, and several more teams would like (not love) to have Leary. One of those teams will have to have an injury in camp to a starter to be willing to give up a 5th but I think that's what they're holding out for. And if no team bites then keep him for depth. He's still a good Guard (not great) and can step in and do well when needed.

From what some of his teammates say, I think if anything he's underrated as a player by a lot of fans.

Problem with trading him is probably that knee condition. Who knows how long he can play.

good luck with that, whens the last time the cowboys got jack shit for one of their players? Fasano?

They fall in love with their players and hold on too long and when they're finally open to trading one, they have no leverage and the rest of the league knows it

They got half of a draft pick for Fasano.

They traded Fasano AND Akin Ayodele to the Dolphins for a 4th round pick.

GM Jerry Jones has never won a trade. He has lucked on some draft picks but no one has more misses in all of sports.

I'd rather keep him for depth in case someone gets injured or La'el accidentally gets another girl pregnant and she mysteriously dies.

.

Yeah Fred and Martin really love the guy. I even remember one of them claiming he was the most consistent OL on the team at one point.

IIRC he was having a great offseason and start to camp last yr, then got hurt.

Not sure what his value is, although some team that loses a starting OG in preseason or cant upgrade from within might throw a 4th or 5th out there to get him, especially if they could get him to agree to a multi yr deal.

IRVING — Ron Leary was missing again Wednesday at the Cowboys’ organized team activities. His No. 65 jersey hung unused in his Valley Ranch locker as his teammates practiced.

Leary hopes to force a trade by skipping the voluntary offseason program.

“Yeah, Ron has not been part of the offseason program at all,” coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday. “That’s a contract situation that he and his agent feel it’s best for him to stay away. We have spoken to him, and at this point, none of the offseason program is mandatory. The only mandatory part of the offseason is the minicamp at the end of the offseason program. Right now, he’s choosing to stay away. We don’t think it’s good for him; we don’t think it’s good for our team. But that’s how they’re handling the situation right now.”

Leary started 31 of 32 games at left guard in 2013-14. He opened last season as the starter but lost his job to highly regarded rookie La’el Collins in the sixth game.

The Cowboys signed free agent Joe Looney as a backup at the three interior offensive line positions on game day, because of Looney’s experience playing center. That leaves Leary as a likely inactive on most game days, prompting his request to go somewhere he can compete for playing time.

Leary, 27, signed his restricted free agent tender of $2.553 million days before the draft in an attempt to pave the way for a trade. The Cowboys, though, have not received an enticing offer, so Leary continues to stay away.

“It’s best to be here working and just going back to business,” Garrett said. “Take care of your business as a professional on a daily basis, and usually good things happen for you.”

The team’s mandatory minicamp is June 16-18.

Leary would do well in a man-blocking scheme. He's just not that effective in a zone blocking one.

What type of scheme do Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Tennessee run? Tennessee has a need for an upgrade at Guard, especially with what they've invested in QB and RB. As for Pitt and Balt, I just think Leary is the exact type of lineman that they always go for. I know those teams have to be willing to give something up but those are three teams I'd think be interested in Leary.

Cowboys won't trade Ron Leary without strong offer

5/27/2016 6:10:31 AM

As backup offensive guard Ron Leary continues to miss non-mandatory organized team activities while requesting a trade, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones made it clear that it will require a strong offer to make it happen, Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News reports. .

Jones also noted that the Cowboys don't have interest in trading their running backs, despite what appears to be an overflowing RBs room that includes veterans Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris.

"We told Ron that he could certainly look around, but we're not in the business of letting go of good football players for little or nothing," Jones said Thursday. "We got calls during the draft asking to trade for some of our running backs. We just don't have that interest. Ron's a big part of this football team.

"We know it's disappointing when you've been starting and you're not. We'd hoped that he would look at it as 'let's come in here and compete.'"

Jones reiterated that he'd told Leary if the right situation came along, they would be pleased to facilitate a win-win situation. But at this point...

"We expect him to come in here at some point," Jones said. "And we want to welcome him with open arms, and hopefully he's getting in shape wherever he is right now."

I think they're taking the right approach with Leary. He's still a good player and there is no need to just give him away. He has more value as a backup guard for 1 year than to trade him for some scrub who probably won't even make the team, or for even a 7th round pick. If Collins or Martin get banged up I'd much rather have Leary replacing them in the lineup than Loony.

Unless they're named Demarcus Ware or anyone else who makes a good scapegoat.

Oh really? People wanted to trade for a McFadden you signed for cheap, or a Morris you just got off the scrap heap, or Dunbar who is injured? I call BS.
