Laufenberg: Repeat after me ... Johnny Manziel is not coming to Dallas

Question: Any chance you will be breaking down the QBs in this upcoming draft for the Morning News? Would love to read your expert opinion of the pros and cons of each of the top QBs.

Babe Laufenberg: Funny you ask. I intend to do just that. My focus is really on the NFL during the regular season, but I am going to try to watch as much of the draft eligible QBs as I can. But for the most part, all I can go by is what I see. I do not have the ability to sit down with them to find out what makes them tick. And without doing that, it is kind of hard to pick one over the other. But I will get back to you on this. But just preliminarily, sure like what I see in Goff from Cal.

Question: I know you are the president of the Kellen Moore fan club but to what extent? Do you view him as a viable backup QB that can fill in when Romo inevitably gets hurt or as a guy who could actually develop into a starter in this league?

Babe Laufenberg: I am the President, although I think I am running unchallenged. I see something in him. He knows how to play the position. Period. Guess who was sacked the least, as a percentage of the 4 Cowboy QBs this year? That would be Kellen Moore. Why? Knows what he wants to do with the football, gets it out on time, throws it away when he has to. Hey, the guy threw for 435 yards. Say what you will about how or why, but there have been a lot of "meaningless" games played in this league and he just walked away with the 6th highest yardage total in the Cowboys' 56 year history. And this in his second NFL start! Said it before and I will say it again- "Don't overlook productivity. "

Question: With Jerry jones saying it was hard to replicate what Romo could do with the offense as it pertains to backup qbs was the offense too "romo oriented"?

Babe Laufenberg: I kept hearing that question being asked, and I don't even know what it means. The notion that only Romo could function in this offense is a new one on me. I have never heard that about any QB, in any offense, other than if you are talking about a true read option team, which the Cowboys are not.. You drop back, put your foot in the ground, find the open receiver, and throw him the ball. The bigger problem was the lack of playmakers the Cowboys had to throw the ball to.

Question: Should the Cowboys get a QB in the first round of the draft or go after RG3 or, God help us, Johnny Manziel to go with Moore?

Babe Laufenberg: I think the Manziel talk is overblown. Jerry gets on the radio and talks in generalities and risk taking and everyone assumes Manziel is coming here. Repeat after me- Johnny Manziel is not coming to Dallas. Period. It is beyond me why anyone would want him. He needs to get his life in order and he needs professional help-not a professional football team.

LOL

Babe is such an idiot. The Pats, Steelers and Packers actually had this problem and they all got by just fine. At some point, the excuses for Garrett just become comical.

Just an army of yes men and apologists. No wonder this fan base is this way.

Babe endorsing Kellen Moore means nothing. A bad third-string QB standing up for another third-stringer.

Geez, this just reminded me that I attended the game Laufenberg started with the playoffs on the line to end the 1990 season. It was here in Atlanta and he played about as bad as anyone I have ever seen play.

Kellen throws it to the other team quite often.

I'm kind of torn on the guy. He's spunky, throws a tight little spiral in the short to intermediate game. But again, I don't think he has enough to be a credible #2 guy.

That's any QB in his first real-game NFL action though. People forget that Tony's first real-game action came after Bledsoe threw a pick in the end zone, then later on in the same game Tony did the exact same thing Bledsoe did, but his was returned 97 yards for the pick six.

New quarterbacks are going to throw picks until they learn better.
