Dez Bryant expects to return Week 7, Tony Romo shooting for Week 11
October 4, 2015 9:11 am ET
Cowboys star receiver Dez Bryant continues to tell teammates and friends that he expects to play against the Giants in Week 7. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo's target remains Week 11, meaning the Cowboys could have both of its top offensive players back for the stretch run in the final month of the season.
Bryant's foot surgery has been the subject of considerable speculation, given how long some other athletes have missed with similar injuries. Some reports have suggested Bryant's rehab could be at least a three-month recovery. However, Bryant has not been told that a return after the Cowboys' Week 6 bye is out of the question. He continues to tell others that he expects to play in Week 7 and the Cowboys maintain that is a realistic outcome as well.
“They're not just saying that,” said one source with knowledge of the situation. “That's not a made up return date. Dez has every intention of playing in the Giants game.”
Romo's recovery from a broken clavicle remains on course, and the Cowboys opted to put the IR-Designated to Return roster status on him. Doctors told Romo the average recovery time for his injury was 7-8 weeks, and he is on pace to be back right at the eight-week mark, in time to face the Dolphins in Week 11.
There have been no setbacks and, sources said, Romo has proven to be a very fast healer over the years. If things hold according to plan, then Miami would be the first team to face Dallas with its top quarterback/receiver coupling back on the field. Given the way the season has started for the Dolphins, that wouldn't be all that surprising.
