But Ryan is the one who picked Carr and claibourne.

That is why he was fired, the team spent a fortune in assets on db's that he recommended and then they got almost no turnovers......then the defense was confused and played poorly again.....because of injuries mostly.

But to me he was fired for the amount invested in Carr/ claibourne and what he promised they would do.

I hope Ryan doesn't end up 0 for 3.

That'd be a shitty reason to be fired considering the circumstances. Trailing every week, sometimes due to the opponents defense scoring, multiple players lost and some who didn't get IR'd were less effective because of injuries.

Not like someone on the staff was cut after Roy Williams failed to do anything after the end of each season he was around.

I think he was fired because his decimated defense was thumped during the last game of the season and then Seattle went into Washington and kicked their ass.

I don't think it's a coincidence he went to Monte Kiffin.

Pretty sure it was Rob Ryan, who coached Asomougha in Oakland who was lobbying hard to get the guy. Pretty well known that he had said numerous times NA was one of his favorite players ever etc etc.

And JJT's whole point of the article was that Jason was the one stopping hiring old FA's like Jerry used to. Who was the head coach when all that Nnamdi courting was going on? Oh yeah, Jason Garrett. So why didn't he put a stop to it?

Bottom line, was Garrett the reason we didn't sign Nnamdi? Nope.

I think so, too. And I bet some added fuel on the fire was that Newman, a Jerry favorite, played pretty darn well for Zimmer, another Jerry favorite.

This franchise would have a couple more Super Bowl titles right now if Jerry had shown half the loyalty to Jimmy Johnson/Bill Parcells as he does to guys like Vinny Del Garrett, Switzer and Lacewell.

It's like he voluntarily surrounds himself around losers just to elevate his ego. Everyone in the world knows Garrett is shitty at both coaching and personnel evaluation. JJT is a joke per usual. It's people like him who prove why journalists should have no voting rights for major league awards.

You don't even have to go back that far. Last year, we signed Dan Connor and Nate Livings, who turned 30 during the season and we gave him a 5 year deal.

Does JJT really think Garrett gained this influence over Jerry in an offseason when his DC was fired, he had to fire his TE coach (brother), Jerry was talking about everyone being "uncomfortable," and he's likely had play-calling duties stripped from him? Sure thing.

It's not loyalty. Jerry wants to have fun. He wants to be the decision maker. He wants credit.

He was miserable winning those Super Bowls with Jimmy because he couldn't play with his toy. He wasn't getting credit.

Same thing with Parcells. Although with Parcells, there wasn't the success here to justify Jerry taking a back seat.

Thank God we lost out on that one. I still remember footage of them in practice with Fat Rob on the phone and Stephen pumping his fist like an idiot.

Yeah sometimes the best moves are the ones that don't work out.

1998 was a prime example too. Jerry definitely wanted to move up for Andre Wadsworth. We offered our 1 and 2 that yr (Ellis and Adams) and our 1 the next yr (Ekuban). Wadsworth of course had major knee issues and bombed. Ellis and Adams were both quality starters for a long time. I still remember the Cards GM public comments after they turned the deal down saying "do you think we wanted to hand them the Super Bowl?"

I remember us being desperate for a defensive end who could pressure the quarterback. Wadesworth looked like a dominating end before the knees. Ellis would have been a 15-18 sack a year end had he not gotten his leg snapped by Alonzo Spellman. That year he had 2 touchdowns of 90 yards a piece and was a dominating pass rusher. He never was the same, but he was still solid. Would have still preferred Moss either way.
