Jason at the Combine

On 103.3 this afternoon, Jason gave his usual blah, blah, "National Football League", blah, but he did say (or let slip) regarding DeMarco Murray, that they "are trying to get that done". He did contest a reporter that made the comment about "plug another runningback in" and said that Murray was unique and able to do many things.

It still bugs me that Jason still regards Murray as someone "who was able to help the rest of our team out." Frankly, several times during the season and especially during the critical idiocies, taking DeMarco off the field and not using him for running, receiving or decoy was the huge error.

I wanted someone to ask Jason how or in what way the offense could improve so that they could get to and win a Super Bowl. I would love to hear that answer.

I'm glad you started this thread because I almost did, but hate to beat the dead horse any more than I already do...

But my god this guy is irritating. All he does is kiss everyone's ass in endless cliche mode. So obsessed with everyone liking him and thinking well of him... I can't think of a great coach who was so concerned with his own image.

And it just chaps my ass how he acts like everything has been his grand plan and anything that goes wrong isn't his fault. Bill Parcells had a big ego but he showed more far humility than this stiff does.

My dear God, guys. If he was out publicly sucking Murray's dick every time a camera was shoved in his face, Murray would want 20 mill a year. It's all smoke screens.

Bring the band back: The Cowboys have 20 unrestricted and restricted free agents. Garrett would like to see them all return, even if that is not probable.

"We have some real cornerstone players on our football team that we'd like to have back in 2015," Garrett said. "But again there's a business part of this too. Dez Bryant is a great football player. He makes our team better. DeMarco Murray makes our team better. Doug Free, Jermey Parnell make our team better. Dwayne Harris makes our team better. The linebackers, Rolando [McClain] and Justin Durant and these other guys, George Selvie, all these guys they make our team better and we have to make some hard choices in regards to what their future is and what their status is and we're in those discussions right now. And hopefully we can work it out where we can bring a lot of those guys back and keep building on the things we've been doing the past couple of years."

Building on the things? What's been going right? On offense veteran players aren't merely going to get better in a scheme that doesn't improve over time and on the defense the potency doesn't improve with more learned players, it improves with athletic freaks!

Who makes the team better?

Makes team better. Vs Familliar player that you don't have to indoctrinate

Rolando McClain..................... Jermey Parnell
Justin Durant......................... Doug Free
Dwayne Harris....................... George Selvie

Re: that Garrett quote Omega posted, that's exactly what I'm afraid of. Everyone has talked like Garrett is this ruthless personality and great talent evaluator -- even comparing him to Jimmy, which is disgusting -- but I'm afraid he's going to want to latch onto every player on this team simply because it's the first time he's had any success. But guys like Dwayne Harris and Selvie are totally expendable. Even Murray probably shouldn't be brought back for the money he's going to cost.

But I'm sure when some of these bit players don't return and the team doesn't go 12-4 again, he'll find a way to scapegoat that like he did when he blamed getting rid of Gurode and Co. from 2011-2012.

I'm taking a wait-and-see approach on this.

The team seemed to have a nice esprit de corps last year and Garrett was a part of that.

As long as the franchise doesn't make bad salary cap decisions (overpaying players, overpaying age, etc.), then I don't think that it is necessarily a bad thing for a head coach to profess a sense of respect and allegiance for his players, even the free agents.

We just have to see how this plays out.

Stephen seems to be more tough-minded and practical than his father.

It could be that a good cop - bad cop dynamic is beginning to emerge ... with Garrett playing the role of the good cop (the player's coach) and Stephen as the bad cop (the hardhearted numbers guy).

That kind of dynamic can work. There isn't anything intrinsically wrong with it, so long as Garrett and Stephen play it right.

I've thought the exact same thing, except I think we're already there. Steve is the tough guy everyone hates, which with his personality I don't think he cares -- he seems like an a-hole anyway. That lets Jason be the smiling, praise-everyone guy who wants the players to like him, which also suits his personality.

And yep, that's not a bad setup as long as the players keep buying it.

Plus ... Wouldn't it send a bad signal to the rest of the team if Murray, who did so much last year (some of it with a broken hand), was to be publicly regarded by the head coach as just another spare part?

I don't see how crassly announcing that would help the team in any way.

If someone has the play the heavy, let Stephen do it.

Yeah let Stephen be the one to say Murray did so much last year in order to get the big payoff today, in the new contract. Contract year beastie!

Melvin Gordon, Todd Gurley, Tevin Coleman and Jay Ajayi are just some of the headliners in what appears to be a loaded running back class. If the Cowboys do part ways with Murray, running back becomes a big position of need – a need they could decide to fill as early as No. 27 overall in the draft. “I think you’ll probably find if you really look at it, that running the football is an important part of all championship-type teams,” said Cowboys coach Jason Garrett on Wednesday.

Ha! This was also from the Combine interview. Notice how Jason was saying that they spent draft picks etc in order to run the ball, as opposed to just calling more definite running plays without changing. The offseason rhetoric was that Dallas was going to run the ball, not if they could. But Murray was the part of the offense that was truly different this year and made an impact that Dallas was one play away from the Championship. He didn't just help the team, running the ball defined the team's winning and showed how anemic the pass plays were without Murray. But Jason had to be forced to run the ball, he didn't orchestrate anything.

But the most prominent shank hidden and threatening Jason just may be the Super Bowl and the playcalling at the end which the world is chastising but he has been guilty of evacuating the running back at critical times as well.

No, dick sucker! You won't "probably" find that, you will DEFINITELY find that! And you DON'T have to "really" look, it is as plain as day!

See what he says and how he says it? Mealy mouthed, weasel worded. He actually said there it's "probably" true that running the football is an important part of all championship-type teams - he's not SURE! And he seems to think one might have to dig around, research it hard, "really look" to find out?

See? See what he is? Just fucking word salad from a educated idiot.

Dang, you people are awfully hostile towards Garrett.

12-4 makes him a little less irritating to me, so I don't care what he says.

12-4 is a fluke that occurred in spite of Carrot Top, not due to any help from.

"Winning is a great deodorizer" but it's not much for fixing stupid. And Garrett is stupid. He tries to cover that fact with the nonsensical word salad he was taught to speak in the Ivy League, he sounds identical to Obama.

I bet he tells Murray, "if you really look you might find it's probably better not to fumble."

This thread pointed out that Steohen was an asshole , which I had thought for years. Even when he was screwing up the cap and being praised for being a "cap guru" , his asshole personality was easy to see while he was keeping the team in cap hell.
