Every team is being reported to be trying to trade back... And every Joe Schmoe with a keyboard and internet connection is on a message board saying "trade back, trade back.. more picks!!!".

Well no fuckin shit... thats a great idea. The problem is if every team is trying to trade back then there will be no one really trying to trade up. Or a team trying to trade up won't have to spend as much because every team is desperate to move down. So essentially you're really not acquiring shit in a trade down.

And I like how some of you act like our GM knows what to do when he acquires more picks... Have you seen some of our drafts? Are you kidding me? Is 2009 too distant for some of you to remember? We get cute and draft special teamers. Thats what we do. We draft special teams players. Special teamers that aren't even good enough to start on our special teams.

Go get the best possible player and lower the chance of bust rate especially at a time like this where it might not cost as much to move up as it would have in recent years. Use free agency to get those role players to fill in the holes.

Another thing, stop saying we have too many needs to fill to trade whatever picks we do have. In what draft that we ever had did you see our team fill all the needs? Is this your first time following the draft process? Shit. Get with it. We're not taking care of every need in the next few days no matter how many picks we acquire. Deal with it.

if mickey spagnola dated carlin for a few months and started picking up his speech patterns he would have written something like this.

2009 isn't really a good comparison because we didn't have a 1st rd pick to begin with (thanks to trade with Detroit that went epic bad). I think we might have been minus our 3rd too because of same deal.

And they really had no intention of trading down with that 2nd rd pick until Seattle jumped us to take Max Unger. If he had been there, he'd have been the pick.

2009 was a horrendous draft. The last 3 haven't been anywhere near that bad, so lets hope for the best.

Good post. I still want to trade down, though. You weren't convincing enough.

Me not wanting to trade a 2nd round or 3rd round pick to move up because we have too many holes to fill still holds. That is one less hole we have an opportunity to address. I never expect to fill all holes.

But this is the straight truth here...

:lol Thanks but I'm not trying to convince you or change your opinion.

I still like the trade down too. In a perfect world, we trade down, get everything we need and acquire 10 new starters.

Just not gonna happen for many of the reasons I wrote up there. Just not a perfect world.

Thats what she said.

Unless we're going all the way up I doubt anything would cost us a 2nd round pick. And thats the point I'm trying to make. EVERY team is being rumored to wanting to trade down. Every team. One GM is quoted as saying this is the worst draft he could remember in the past 10 years. GMs want out of those early picks. That tells me, because I'm so much smarter than everyone else, that it won't cost as much to move up as it would have in recent years. Not with the amount of teams that are desperately trying to move back. The numbers would work in our favor. But its the opposite if we try to trade down... we're not gonna get what you think we're gonna get in a trade down.

As for trading away a pick and the potential to fill a hole on the team.. What I wrote about our GM's drafting abilities apply there. Take the sure thing at a cheap price, instead of taking whatever in every round in hopes that you don't continue to draft busts.

I actually think 18 is a decent spot, just not for us.

If a team wants Eifert, to get their QB, a WR, or if Milliner/Rhodes falls. You are right about this first round depth though but someone will want their guy and get nervous. We should have a willing trade partner but teams know they can get the better of us too, so there's that.

I agree with the sentiment... but like Sacamano said (from beyond the grave), we're kind of in a bad spot in this draft. 16ish players with first round grades, and we're picking 18th.

Means, unless one or two players fall, there's a whole gaggle of players graded out similarly. So if the opportunity presents itself, which it very well might not as you outlined, then I think we should.
