Falcons will release Tyson Clabo
Posted by Josh Alper on April 4, 2013, 9:41 AM EDT

The Falcons are about to have a new look on the right side of their offensive line.

Right tackle Tyson Clabo is about to get a pink slip from the Falcons, according to a tweet from his agent Chad Speck. Clabo has been a starter for the Falcons since joining the team in 2006, making 101 starts over seven years with the team. He’s started every game over the last five years and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2010.

That resume makes it hard to believe this is a performance-related move from the Falcons. It’s more likely part of an effort to clear cap space to put toward a contract extension for quarterback Matt Ryan. Until Clabo is officially cut loose, the Falcons have just $2.4 million in cap space at their disposal and it would seem they feel they need more. They’ll get it by excising Clabo’s $4.5 million base salary from the rolls, although it opens up a big hole on the line.

Clabo shouldn’t suffer from a lack of suitors on the open market, where he’ll join Andre Smith as the most appealing right tackles available. Teams like the Dolphins, Eagles, Texans and Cardinals have been linked with other available tackles this offseason and you’d imagine some or all of them will want a look at Clabo.

Another guy who would be an upgrade over Free.

The Cowboys can't say they don't have options.

All kidding aside...with Andre Smith, Clabo, and Winston still out there we have a really good chance to upgrade RT.

I'd take Clabo over all of them.

I want to like Smith, but I'm afraid of what he'll turn into once he gets paid. Remember that video of him running shirtless at the combine? You don't get mantits like that from having a work ethic.

Andre Smith is the better player. I do share the concerns though that his work ethic could be an issue, particularly if he came here where no one is really held accountable.

@EvanSilva
Andre Smith was @PFF's No. 1-rated right tackle in 2012. Tyson Clabo was Top 5, and Eric Winston was No. 9. They are all free agents.

There is no excuse for the Cowboys to not go into the 2013 season with a solid line.

They have options at tackle in FA and options at G in tge draft.

If we have a shitty line again, it's because they didn't view the line as an issue for the umpteenth year in a row. And I have no idea how they could look at our line and come to the conclusion that it's fine, but they've been doing that so it wouldn't surprise me if they ignored the unit again.

I never disputed Smith was the better player. I just question his work ethic.

The potential of a

T. Smith LT
Warmack LG
Bernadeu C
_____ RG
A. Smith

line would give me chills.

Also, I wonder if Tyron and Andre are related. They look alike. :errr

The thing that I find fairly amazing is that we have not been able to properly replace Kosier. I vastly underrated him and wish we could find another like him.

Our offense should be pretty damn good with a line like that and I would like to think Murray would have a big year behind that group too.

That is of course if they can overcome Garrett's stupidity and Murray's health issues.

‏@evansilva 14m Shows how inferior RTs are viewed by NFL teams. Only 1 right tackle (Doug Free) makes over $7M annually. 14 left tackles make over $7M/year.

:lol :lol :lol

Laugh the pain away

I think you can get by with Livings if you have solid guys around. As the old saying goes, you can't have a steak on every plate.

But what you can't have is all 3 interior spots occupied by bad to average players as we've been doing since 2010.

Next year, assuming we get a G this year, we need to look at upgrading C bevause I am not sold on Costa at all.
