Just speechless at how fucking awful this team is. Losing to Denver was bad because they got owned, but getting dominated AT HOME by a team playing a backup QB and losers of 5 straight games? Disgusting. This is an utter failure of a franchise from the top down. It was so bad that Cardinals players (who themselves have never won anything) were LAUGHING at the Cowboys defense on hot mics. Just when you think this team can't sink to lower levels, they find a way.

1) Pretty lame game from Prescott, although I don't think he had any help at all. They dropped balls repeatedly. The OL was 6 guys impersonating turnstiles (6 because Nate Thomas replaced Steele and was equally as awful). Prescott was ultimately sacked 5 times and pounded virtually the entire game. He avoided several near sacks with his legs and had 4 scrambles for 34 yards himself. That said, QBing a team to only one offensive TD at home when you are paid 60 million is bad.

2) Thought this was by far Schottenheimer's worst game as a HC. Team clearly was not prepared to play football and got outmuscled and outhustled for 60 minutes. The Cardinals are not very good and beat us to hell. Team appeared to play with zero emotion and made mistake after mistake. Then there was the offensive playcalling, which had been pretty good for most of the year. Last night was really poor in addition to dumb decisions to bypass points to "hope" for 4th down conversions, including one just inside the 5 on the opening drive. Perfect execution all the way down the field until the redzone, and then 3 terrible plays in a row. He also had a chance to cut the lead to a 2 score game when it was 27-10 (FG makes it 27-13) and he went for it there too. Reeks of desperation and I think the entire teams feels it. They've had a ton of injuries, but this is 3 really bad losses (Bears, Panthers, Cards) to teams they probably should have beaten now. It's starting to look like Schottenheimer is not the guy.

3) There just aren't any more descriptive terms to use for the defense, which is by far the worst we have ever seen IMO. They cant cover, they cant tackle. They have numerous guys on the ground seemingly every play. Busted coverages galore. And when they do step up and make a decent play they seem to get penalties. They got 5 sacks last night and the opposing QB still carved them up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Several times great sacks forced them into 2nd or 3rd and long, only to allow a completely uncontested, wide open receiver easily convert. It's comically bad.

4) Jake Ferguson just had his 2nd all world type flub game of the season. A plethora of dropped passes, poor blocking and penalties. Schoonmaker was no better, dropping an easy one and missing a couple blocks himself. Why he gets any reps ahead of Spann-Ford is puzzling at best. Terrible game from these two guys.

5) Sam Williams does one thing really good, he is a weapon on the punt block team. I think this is two or three he has blocked now and he's come close NUMEROUS other times. Now he'll make the knucklehead play and line up offsides some. You wished he'd show that same type of explosiveness and athletic ability rushing the passer, but dude is a force on the punt block team.

6) This happened as I was writing it up and it's too little too late for this yr, but getting Quinnen Williams was a good move. He's an elite level DT and is by far the best we have had inside in a long, long time. He's a solid pass rusher and an elite level run defender. Should make Clark and Osa even better. Logan Wilson is an upgrade at MLB over what we had. We shouldn't be the gigantic sieve up the middle any more.

7) Whether they make the playoffs or not (pipedream) the team had best show some significant improvement after the bye, especially defensively. In addition to the two trades today, EZ 41 has really developed nicely and looks to have a really bright future. They've seen some good stuff from rookie LB James. They have depth on the DL overall. They are getting Overshown and rookie Shavon Revel on the field, Malik Hooker is due back and they also should be getting Perrion Winfrey too. If we see defensive efforts like what we've seen the first half of the yr, they have ZERO choice but to fire Fluberduece.

8) Not going to whine about the refs because we wholehearted deserved the ass whipping we got, but some of the shit was kinda lame. Not really sure George Pickens warranted a 15 yd flag for holding the ball up. Dante Fowler was literally tackled on one play by his facemask. We got called for several OL holds and I am not sure the Cards had any (maybe one) even though they sure seemed to be taking guys to the ground quite a bit. But I still don't understand how refs "miss" false start calls. They were obvious and on two of them the Cowboy players thought the plays were dead so they stopped playing, only to see the Cards complete two fairly decent downfield throws on them afterward.

9) Players I thought had exceedingly bad games last night. Daron Bland (maybe worst game of his career), Jake Ferguson (pathetic, 2nd time this yr he really hurt the team), Kevontae Turpin, Luke Schoonmaker, Marquese Bell, Kenneth Murray (should never see the field on defense again), entire OL (especially Steele and then his replacement Thomas)

10) Cant see them making the playoffs at all. They'd have to win 7 of last 8 to have a chance to get in (most likely they'd have to run the table) and we haven't won back to back games once this year. The rest of this year should be about showing improvement, learning as much about the young guys as you can, get some momentum and hopefully see enough from the staff to warrant them returning. Otherwise if this ends up a 4 or 5 win train wreck, they have to clean house. We obviously shed some draft capital (we now dont have a 2nd or 3rd rd pick next yr) but currently we have the 14th and 24th picks of the 1st rd, plus a shit ton of cap space to work with. It sucks to already be thinking about next yr, but that's pretty much all we have.

Used to be they could pad their win total stats against average to below average opponents.

Now that that narrative has been removed this perpetual spiral downward will continue.

This is nothing that hasn't already been shown before in some form.

So man...
Just hold on to those 70s and 90s glory years.

Cuz this thing is not even done bottoming out yet.
Stay tuned for more.
