I'm convinced the Jones Boys want to go DB in round 1 which, IMO, is a mistake. Trade down for more picks and you'll find DB's in the later rounds, just as we did with Diggs and Bland. You fix the DL. Trenches, trenches, trenches.
We need a lot on defense. Hard for me to argue against almost any spot they go for.

I don't have a big problem with them taking Delane or Downs but obviously would be thrilled if somehow we got Bailey or Bain. Styles would be another solid addition to the front 7 if we somehow got him, unless they trade for somebody like Jordyn Brooks first.

I don't trade any more draft capital unless it's a late pick.

People keep floating this idea of moving up with Browns, giving them 12 (1200) and 20 (850) for 6 (1600) and 39 (510).

It's fairly close on the value chart. It puts us into position to guarantee one of the primo defensive players and doesn't result in us "losing" a pick.

For Cleveland (a team with massive numbers of holes) it gives them 3 picks in 1st rd.

Another deal that makes some sense to me is 12 and TJ Bass for 6. Bass was tendered at a 2nd rd level (around 400 pts) so we might have to throw something else in (maybe we include 20 and they give us back 24) but the Browns lost a bunch of starting OL and this gives them one starter and allows them to still consider taking another OL (prob a T) at 12, and doesn't feel like they are over-drafting the spot then.

As much as I would like to keep Pickens long term I just don’t see it happening. I think we could get A first and third for him or maybe do a trade involving a high level player like Miles Garrett. Jury is still out on his attitude although he behaved for the most part last season. The guy is definitely a baller and helps us on offense but the price keeps going up as Jerruh continues his delay to pay tactics which always bite him in the butt. I will not be surprised if he stays and plays on the tag and I will not be surprised if he is traded prior to draft or during the draft. I think paying him more than CeeDee will create issues. I can see a scenario where we take a wide receiver in the first round if there are plans to to trade him. I also see a scenario where he stays and plays for one year on the tag and then we trade him. That is the most likely scenario. It will be a turbulent off season more that likely as GP will probably sit out until real games start. In the meantime Jerruh better get the linebacker room straightened out fast. In my opinion the overall success of our defense will rest largely on a seasoned veteran linebacker to lead the defense. Bobby Wagner would be an example of someone who could really help us. We must not rely solely on the draft to get the linebacker room fixed. It’s going to be an interesting draft and continues to be an interesting off season.

Yeah I have a hard time depending on an oft injured Overshown and James as the only 2 at the second level of the defense as well, so good call there.
But then again I also have a hard time depending on any of the current offensive tackles as passblockers or Gary and a post surgery Ezeiraku as the 1st and 2nd edge guys.

So it should be an interesting draft.

Maybe nothing becomes of any of these, but I won't be surprised if we see a few draft week/weekend trades involving one or two of our guys.

1) George Pickens- not really wanting us to move him, but there's been zero movement that we know of a long term deal. Him playing on the tag seems like a crapshoot (you'd think he'd at least hold out and miss all of camp/preseason). Probably the most unlikely of any of these I'm putting out there and honestly we are better with him than without him. Still, it cannot be completely ignored that we have been looking at some pretty highly rated WR's and there's zero reason for that if Pickens is going to be here.

2) Kevontae Turpin- Definitely wouldn't be shocked if we move him. His contract is doable from a trade standpoint and he's coming off a yr where he really wasn't overly effective as a returner or receiver. He also struggles badly with decision making on the field. Ryan Flournoy is clearly eons in front of him now as the 3rd WR. We could probably get a middle round pick for him. Maybe the Stealers and McCarthy would have interest (among others)

3) Luke Schoonmaker- seems he is definitely on the way out one way or another. Team has been scouting TE's and Gregory Spann-Ford was taking PT from him last yr. Supposedly Schottenheimer was never a fan of Schoon from the time we drafted him. Can definitely see them trying to recoup a late pick or something. Chargers and Harbaugh (who recruited and coached Schoonmaker at Michigan) make sense to me.

4) TJ Bass- They qualified him at a 2nd rd pick tender level which is a little expensive on a 1yr deal for a guy who is just a backup interior OL for us. He is sensational depth but he has proven starter capability and has graded quite well when he does play, and he is young. Some team in need of an interior starter could definitely be interested. Could see them moving Bass for a pick or part of a deal to move up with someone (ie, Browns or Cards maybe)

5) Dak Prescott- ok not really, I just put this here to see if Dodger is reading my shit in detail

If we do any draft trades I hope it is to move back and accumulate more draft picks. We need more picks. Unless there is someone that we really love falls to 10 or 11 I think it would be wise to either stay with our picks or move back for more draft capital. We are still several talented players away from improving our defense. Regardless, this is going to be a very interesting and entertaining draft.

I think they are going to try hard to move up from 12 and with the 30 visits it certainly seems like the effort may have already been going on (which has been reported by many as well).

I still think getting to the 2/3/4 area is too pricy to move up for (unless the other team gives a discount that's stupid) but getting to the 6-8 range is definitely doable. Love the idea of something like 12 & 20 + TJ Bass to Cleveland for 6 & 24 or 6 & 39 for 12 & 20 (which is almost an exact match on the pts table). We get one of the blue chip defensive guys but still have another high pick to add more. Or use that next pick to trade down for some other draft capital. Either of these scenarios isn't a net loss in draft picks either.

A draft where we came away with Caleb Downs and Jacob Rodriguez would be a massive upgrade for us I think. Not just the talent of the players either, but the football IQ of both these guys is extremely high. CJ Allen is in that mix on the football IQ/leadership side too but he has the knee question that needs to be answered.

I agree about Pickens. I want to keep him, but he won’t play on the tag. None of David Malaguetas players have ever played on the tag. Jesse Holly apparently talked to DM at the combine this year and DM gave him the impression that there is no way GP plays on the tag. I can see this easily becoming a huge distraction the way Micah did last year. I can also see him being advised to pull some Micah level shit to get us to trade him. I want no part of that BS. If we can get one of the top WR in the draft and then trade GP to pick up more draft capitol I’m all for it. Then we will have a really strong number 2 WR on the cheap for the next 5 years instead of paying 2 WR at the top of the market.

I would be happy to dump Schoon who hasn’t done shit, and Turpin who as you said has really bad decision making skills. He is a one trick pony and we can get similar production with other players already on the roster. It’s not like Turpin has broken a big one loose lately.

I would like to keep Bass. He is great depth and we will need him this season.
