Six Safeties Among Group Working Out For Cowboys Friday

IRVING, Texas - The Cowboys have a large group of players at Valley Ranch on Friday to work out on the field following the regular walkthrough practice.

Of the 16 players on the field, six are safeties, including Charlie Peprah and Larry Asante. The Cowboys are also taking a look at Gerald Alexander, Rod Issac, Mikail Baker and Vince Agnew.

Peprah, who is from nearby Plano, Texas, has played five of his six pro seasons in Green Bay. He started 14 games at safety last year for the Packers. Asante has played the last two years in Tampa Bay.

The Cowboys had three punters on the list in former NFL vets Daniel Sepulveda, Chas Henry and T.J. Conley. The club is hoping Chris Jones is available for Sunday’s game despite a left knee sprain. Veteran Brian Moorman has a groin injury and will likely miss the game.

The initial workout was to include 14 players but with the punting issues, the three veterans were added to the list.

One quarterback – Chase Clement – was scheduled to work out but recently suffered a hand injury. Former Tarleton State quarterback Nick Stephens was in attendance.

The biggest name of the group is Baylor’s Robert Griffin. But he’s the guard who was drafted in the sixth round by the Jets and not the reigning Heisman Trophy winner who quarterbacks the Redskins.

Here’s the list of 16 players in attendance Friday:

Nick Stephens, QB, Tarleton State
John Haggerty, WR, SW Oklahoma
Daniel Sepulveda, P, Baylor
Chas Henry, P, Florida
T.J. Conley, P, Idaho
Robert Griffin, G, Baylor
Fendi Onobun, TE, Houston
Charlie Peprah, S, Alabama
Gerald Alexander, S, Boise State
Larry Asante, S, Nebraska
Mikail Baker, S, Baylor
Vince Agnew, S, Cent. Michigan
Rod Issac, S/CB, Middle Tennessee State
Reggie Jones, CB, Portland State
Morgan Trent, CB, Michigan
Kevin Thomas, CB, USC

The name on that list that I want is Charlie Peprah. Solid safety with experience, and had like 5 int's for GB last year.

Instant upgrade over anyone we currently have at safety not named Sensabaugh.

Nick Stephens, QB, Tarleton State

Daniel Sepulveda, P, Baylor - I'm kind of surprised he's available. He was impressive in college, big leg.
Chas Henry, P, Florida
T.J. Conley, P, Idaho
Robert Griffin, G, Baylor
Fendi Onobun, TE, Houston
Charlie Peprah, S, Alabama - Mid is right. Upgrade over current safeties.
Gerald Alexander, S, Boise State
Larry Asante, S, Nebraska - Liked him in college. LB convert. Another one I'm surprised is not on a NFL roster.
Mikail Baker, S, Baylor
Vince Agnew, S, Cent. Michigan
Rod Issac, S/CB, Middle Tennessee State
Reggie Jones, CB, Portland State
Morgan Trent, CB, Michigan - Should have never left school early. Had a decent camp for the Jets two years ago.
Kevin Thomas, CB, USC - 3rd round pick out of USC. Good #4 CB candidate.

I don't know why we keep messing with Nick Stephens. He was terrible at Tennessee. Average at Tarleton State. And his measurables really aren't that impressive.

Was wondering what his deal was. I thought he was a good player, too. Don't know the story on why GB released him.

I'm still waiting for them to call me one day. I'm thinking about just going up there and trying out next training camp.

I was thinking about having us draft him late in one of my mocks. Then I saw his highlight tapes/youtube. Very average arm.

It's a good thing they got these guys to workout early in the week so they can possibly contribute against Baltimore if they look good enough.

I know this player pretty well bc the Bears were looking at him at one point.

I doubt he'd be a great fill-in. Dude got lit up multiple times in 2011. He missed tackles and was terrible in coverage. They cut him after a failed physical, and Packers fans rejoiced.

GB lovesss to pile up shitty coverage safeties. It was almost an accident that they had Collins.
