Cowboys tweak coaching staff

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys continue to tweak their coaching staff with Keith O’Quinn becoming the assistant special teams coach and Kyle Valero added as an offensive assistant.

O’Quinn replaces Chris Boniol, who held the assistant special teams coach title from 2010-12 and has the same job now with the Oakland Raiders. O’Quinn has spent the last three years as an offensive quality control coach as well as an assistant wide receivers coach.

He is well thought of inside Valley Ranch and also has a scouting background. After a three-year run as a pro scout with the Cowboys, he was the Cleveland Browns' director of pro personnel in 2009.

Valero worked with new passing game coordinator Scott Linehan for four seasons with the Detroit Lions.

Cowboys tweak scouting staff

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys continued to tweak their scouting staff on Thursday when they hired Michael Burke to scout players from the University of Arizona.

Burke , who's background is in managing apartments, joins the team after messaging Assistant Director of Player Personnel Will McClay on Facebook and offering to scout players for free. In addition to his scouting responsibilities, Burke also is an administrator at CowboysOwn.com, a private forum where Cowboys super fans blow smoke up each others asses.

He is well thought of inside Valley Ranch, as he previously scouted every kick Nick Folk made in college despite his hatred for kickers. He also turned the Cowboys scouting department on to Mason Foster and alerted them to character concerns of another well known potential draft pick that the Cowboys literally had no clue about. "I don't recall that at all" Cowboys Director of Scouting Tom Ciscowski was quoted as saying.

Burkes background in football is a bit mysterious. While he famously boasts about playing at BYU, there is literally no record of anyone with his name ever playing at the university in any capacity. Likewise, he is famous for claiming to be an assistant coach at Arizona University but shockingly, there again is absolutely no record whatsoever anywhere of any Michael Burke ever coaching at that university.

When asked to comment on this, Mr. Burke simply stated "Believe what you want" before retreating to his private forum.

Doesn't matter. Jerry will still take a backup tight end in the second round.

Do teams usually hire coaches that are thought of poorly?

No but how about owners who hire QB coaches as future offensive or assistant head coaches to be named later who are well thought of around the league and highly regarded as one of the sharpest young minds in the NFL. Just a terrible Roulette roll: all the money on 17 Red and the spin keeps missing that ridiculous number and color.

Maybe Mr. Burkes newest site put him over the top for the job.
