Vital has been with the team since 2008, was well-regarded, and actually fielded general manager interviews with other teams, so in that sense, this move is extremely surprising. Vital was regarded as an integral part of the front office, and considering Thomas Dimitroff hired him, it's odd to see him go while Dimitroff stays.
Ha! They read my thread about the personnel suck, and said "We need a real personnel man."Cowboys make change to personnel office
Super impressed with Falcons roster. This is a home run hire.
Lionel Vital (born July 15, 1963) is the director of player personnel for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He is a former American football running back for the Washington Redskins and in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was drafted by the Redskins in the seventh round of the 1985 NFL Draft. He played college football at Nicholls State University.
Vital was promoted from assistant director of player personnel by the Falcons when David Caldwell left the organization to become the general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He previously was a scout for the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Cleveland Browns.
And who is Lionel well regarded for bringing to the a Falcons? What are the vital stats?
well he wasn't the GM for one thing, so nobody
Okay. So in the spirit of the question: what did he do on the Falcons that might be of note to us?
And they both got rid of him, right?
Jason Garrett's Patriot Acts:
1. Reduce Romo to a pocket passer just like Brady. Romo studied Brady.
2. Pretend that WRs are the skillset capable of the pass-happy Moss/Welker years in NE.
3. Hire and fire former D-coach of NE Rob Ryan. Blame him for offense not scoring like Patriots.
4. Mimic philosophy that "RBs are like Swiffer Pads: wipe the ground with them and then replace".
5. Bring in Matt Cassel to win like he did when Brady was out. Blame defense for offense not scoring.
6. Hire Lionel Vital who worked for Patriots in acquiring talent after 2015s disaster of talent and personnel management. Poor output from the offense is blamed on the defensive secondary coach, Henderson.
Is Henderson still here? I haven't been paying much attention.

He seemed to want out.
Now we have Garrett's old WR from Princeton coaching the secondary. He was mainly in charge of our safety play last year. If that doesn't tell you how great he is, I don't know what will.
Good, now he can coach somebody else's DB's up on how to avoid the fucking football.
He also hired Greg Jackson, who has been with Harbaugh for awhile now. Jackson will be coaching safeties.

But Joe Baker is secondary coach.
