MOBILE, Ala. – The Cowboys are still trying to work out the final details, but they have zeroed in on Rich Bisaccia for their special teams coordinator job, according to a source.

Bisaccia, 52, coached the San Diego Chargers special teams the last two seasons after spending the previous nine seasons coaching with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Cowboys also interviewed former Buffalo Bills special teams coordinator Bruce DeHaven and former Tennessee Titans special teams coordinator Alan Lowry for the job. Both had previously coached for the Cowboys.

Bisaccia was hired in early January to be Auburn’s assistant coach in charge of special teams and running backs. The final details that had to be worked out was Bisaccia getting out of his current contract at Auburn to take the Cowboys job.

Bisaccia has ties to new Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. They worked on the same Tampa Bay staff together for seven seasons, including being a part of the Buccaneers’ win in Super Bowl XXXVII over Oakland to end the 2002 season, Bisaccia’s first with Tampa Bay.

Bisaccia would replace Joe DeCamillis, who left after the season to take the Chicago Bears’ special teams coordinator job.

Sources: Cowboys eye Rich Bisaccia for special teams

IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys have targeted Rich Bisaccia to be their next special teams coach, according to sources, but a buyout from Auburn has yet to be finalized.

A move could be done Thursday.

Bisaccia has been the top target since Joe DeCamillis' departure for Chicago, but the team also met with veteran special teams coaches Bruce DeHaven and Alan Lowry at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Bisaccia spent the last two seasons as San Diego's special teams coach but joined Auburn's staff earlier in the month to coach running backs and special teams.

From 2002-10, Bisaccia worked as Tampa Bay's special teams coach and has a history with new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and defensive line coach Rod Marinelli.

Bisaccia is known as a solid special teams coach, but the Chargers had three punts blocked in 2012.

nickeatman Asst. O-line coach Wes Phillips appears to be top candidate for TE coaching position. Phillips, son of Wade, has been on staff since 2007

Eatman also reported that Lions RB coach Sam Gash is one of the top candidates for same job here.

He was also one of the greatest fullbacks of all time - behind Hostile, of course.
