MOBILE, Ala. – The Cowboys are still trying to work out the final details, but they have zeroed in on Rich Bisaccia for their special teams coordinator job, according to a source.
Bisaccia, 52, coached the San Diego Chargers special teams the last two seasons after spending the previous nine seasons coaching with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Cowboys also interviewed former Buffalo Bills special teams coordinator Bruce DeHaven and former Tennessee Titans special teams coordinator Alan Lowry for the job. Both had previously coached for the Cowboys.
Bisaccia was hired in early January to be Auburn’s assistant coach in charge of special teams and running backs. The final details that had to be worked out was Bisaccia getting out of his current contract at Auburn to take the Cowboys job.
Bisaccia has ties to new Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. They worked on the same Tampa Bay staff together for seven seasons, including being a part of the Buccaneers’ win in Super Bowl XXXVII over Oakland to end the 2002 season, Bisaccia’s first with Tampa Bay.
Bisaccia would replace Joe DeCamillis, who left after the season to take the Chicago Bears’ special teams coordinator job.
