I chose the last 4 playoff seasons, 2009, 2014, 2016 and this year. I also included 2017 as it's the yr before Richard arrived.

You can draw your own conclusions, but the idea that this team was somehow transformed because of the arrival of Kris Richard is a massive stretch. The team won 1 more game this yr than last yr, and that can CLEARLY be attributed to not having Zeke Elliott for 6 games. Most of the defensive numbers are similar from this year compared to last yr, and even the 2016 and 2014 teams, which were far lesser talented than this team is (especially in the front 7) had somewhat similar numbers.

2018:
Points per game: 20.3 (6th)
Total yards per game: 329.3 (7th)
Rush yds per game: 94.6 (5th)
Rush yds per attempt: 3.8 (T4th)
Pass yds per: 234.7 (13th)
QB rating against: 95.7 (22nd)
QB sacks: 39 (T16th)
Interceptions: 9 (T26th)
3rd down conversion %: 42.3 (27th)

2017:
Points per game: 20.8 (T13th)
Total yards per game: 318.1 (8th)
Rush yds per game: 104.0 (8th)
Rush yds per attempt: 4.1 (T16th)
Pass yds per: 214.1 (11th)
QB rating against: 94.6 (26th)
QB sacks: 38 (T15th)
Interceptions: 10 (24th)
3rd down conversion %: 42.9 (29th)

2016:
Points per game: 19.1 (5th)
Total yards per game: 343.9 (14th)
Rush yds per game: 83.5 (1st)
Rush yds per attempt: 3.9 (T8th)
Pass yds per: 260.4 (26th)
QB rating against: 94.1 (24th)
QB sacks: 36 (13th)
Interceptions: 9 (27th)
3rd down conversion %: 39.1 (15th)

2014:
Points per game: 22.0 (15th)
Total yards per game: 355.1 (19th)
Rush yds per game: 103.1 (8th)
Rush yds per attempt: 4.2 (T16th)
Pass yds per: 251.9 (26th)
QB rating against: 88.5 (13th)
QB sacks: 28 (28th)
Interceptions: 18 (T7th)
3rd down conversion %: 43.6 (27th)

2009:
Points per game: 15.6 (2nd)
Total yards per game: 315.9 (9th)
Rush yds per game: 90.5 (4th)
Rush yds per attempt: 4.0 (T8th)
Pass yds per: 225.4 (20th)

It may not be that much different but it sure feels different, they seem much more aggressive than in years past

am I seeing things?

There's been some games I felt they were more aggressive, but there's been plenty where it basically looks the same to me, just with improved players.

It's definitely not some dramatic difference though.

First stat I looked at was interceptions. With few exceptions, we're bottom feeders year after year. Chido waited until WK 17 to get his first pick - a gift from Eli.

They should keep stats on dropped picks. Seems like we let some hit the ground.

It does seem like we stone hand a lot of them but other teams drop picks too, not just us.

The problem is we dont get our hands on enough of them. Jones and Awuzie rarely (if ever) try to jump a route. Our safeties dont play the ball well in the air and none of them have for years. DB has been turned over a ton and the results are still the same.

People are enamored with Richard because, unlike Red, he actually gets in your face if you screw up. Good coaches are always in a bad mood, even after victories.

People get enamored with anyone they see yell or get animated. They think that's always equates to great coaching, when in fact it does not.

Richard may or may not be a great HC. If he is it has nothing to do with him yelling at some 3rd string scrubs in a preseason game.

Honestly I don't see anything exceptional about the guy. To Cowboys fans all they care about is he is not Garrett. He absolutely might be the next Todd Bowles or the guy AZ fired after only a year.

He does have the one thing none of our other coaches have.

Interest from other teams.

Nobody's asking to interview Linehan or Marinelli, or any other Dallas assistant that I'm aware of. A lot of that though could be attributed to the Rooney rule, too.

Yeah once upon a time Jason Garrett had interest from other teams. So did Rod Marinelli. Linehan's name came up a few times after the 2014 and 2016 seasons. A lot of coaches around the league get interest from other teams at one time or another. So did Todd Bowles. So did Todd Haley.

It doesn't mean they'll be a good coach though.

The Cowboys seem to do very well when they have a top five defense in the NFL They when Super Bowls with the no.1 defense in the NFL (1977, 1992).

Offense scores points and defense wins championships.
