Just kills me that they aren't giving Toomer a chance. Broaddus said that there is some dissension between the coaches and the scouts. The scouts want to see him on the field but the coaches aren't comfortable with him. You have to trust your scouts, IMO.
Lookit, the coaches just don't know the player, okay?
Seriously though, this kind of crap bugs me. It just seems there is some issue with this defensive staff and the personnel department. It started with the Floyd thing in the draft and it doesn't seem to have improved.
Sterling Moore is a similar case. The guy played well in camp, did good in exhibitions, yet the coaching staff just kept insisting he wasn't what they needed in their scheme, but somehow B.W. Webb was. They eventually cut him and were incredibly fortunate he sat around and they were able to sign him back.
Now, I don't know if Toomer is actually practicing well, but is getting the same treatment, but I could see it. Easily.
That's where I'm at. Especially if you're all that stressed about improving the situation, as they say they are. Throw stuff up on the damn wall, see what sticks. Hell, MODIFY your scheme to fit the personnel you have, if it's needed. If the coaches don't think he can play, why not prove it and stop wasting a roster spot.
If the coaches don't think he can play, why not prove it and stop wasting a roster spot. Personally, I think the kid is decent. The injuries have created a situation where he needs to either show he can play or they need to release him and go find someone who can.
