This thing is, Jerry used the offseason signings for the interior line as reason why we didn't go after it in the draft. Now that excuse has faded a bit, so the move seems even more stupid. Especially if we knew of this injury ahead of time, which you would think would most certainly be the case.

He'll be okay. He is one of the most athleticly-gifted offensive linemen I have seen. Quick, great feet, and long arms. He played some left tackle his freshman year at USC.

I'm with you on that. Yeah, Smith has plenty of talent to excel there, but it will be new to him (he didn't even play it in college) and he will be going against better rushers over there.
I'm sure he'll be fine, but there could be some bumps in the road early on.
