I'd be fine with not picking up a vet back up. If Romo goes down its not going to be for a game or two. It will be for multiple games. It will be the same situation as last year.

The season will be shot at that point anyway

Might as well get Dak the reps. I doubt he will pan out in the end. But you never know. Better to find out sooner rather than later

Also, if they do that it will put them in position to get a top QB next year.

This year marks my lowest expectations for the start of the season in recent memory

I expect shit to go wrong, I expect at least one big injury, I expect Romo to miss at least a couple games

I expect to go 8-8 if everything goes right

So not picking up a vet back up is just fine by me

I'm not expecting anything big this season anyway
