Jerry Jones not against seven WRs on roster
August, 26, 2012
By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

ARLINGTON, Texas -- At the beginning of training camp, there was some wonder about whether the Cowboys had a third wide receiver on their roster behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

Now, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is being asked if it is possible the Cowboys keep seven of them on the final 53-man roster.

My how things change when Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley put up 100-yard games in back-to-back preseason contests and Kevin Ogletree emerges.

“Well, you can, and you say, ‘Well, are you being realistic?’” Jones said. “You could do that, but a lot of it has to do with where we end up injury wise after the game Wednesday night. But still we’ve got room. We kept seven down linemen last year, and so you can do some things if you need to. I don’t know that we’ll do that at all, but you can do it.”

I’ll call the chances remote. At best. You can’t tie up 13 percent of your roster on wide receivers when they’re not core special teamers. But let’s play along and pick the seven (in order): Austin, Bryant, Ogletree, Harris, Beasley, Andre Holmes and Danny Coale.

Holmes can cover some. Harris, Ogletree and Beasley can return some. Coale has some special teams’ background from college.

As of today, I think they take five receivers and hope Holmes and Coale can make it to the practice squad.

i say fuck holmes and coale. if holmes wanted it after being hyped he wouldve went to camp prepared. Keeping holmes would show everybody that dallas still rewards laziness. And all this thats going on with dez is smoke screen bullshit. Cut holmes and move on. If he becomes a starter oh well. he was never going to start over Austin and Dez. Was never going to take Wittens catches. Dallas needs role players from the 3rd wr and beyond and i think they have that with the players that went to camp prepared. Coale is just the odd man out. see ya. 1 white wr is enough lol. Shit Dallas has Austin too and thats close enough lol

Comforting to know Jerry is okay with that. Because he knows how to build a team, afterall.

Dont you think he's twisting what hes saying? The title is even misleading. Jerry was asked about he basically was answering the guys question in all hypotheticals. But any chance to dog on Jerry right? lol

I think its highly doubtful they keep 7 WR's

6 is certainly possible.

7 seems ridiculous.

I'm not really sure guy #6 or #7 has shown enough to actually warrant a spot.

Seems like keeping 6 would be a decent move if you think a guy has potential to develop.

Keeping 7 would be hoping for development and then refusing to let go of a pet cat on top of it.

I'm good with 6 as I think 2 QBs are gonna happen and Dallas no longer has the fiasco of 2 kickers.

I'm happy with 6. Ogletree and Harris will surely suck ass per usual, so those other two receivers will hopefully pan out. I've had to deal with Ogletree's antics for much longer than most Cowboys fans, and there's absolutely nothing heartwarming about his recent surge in performance. He will blow balls again soon enough, and the world will return to normal.
