Belicek wouldn't have went deep. Neither would have McCarthy. Get the first and eat up clock. Be methodical.
Have no problem going for it on 4th and 2. But any other HC would have tried to get the 1st down. It's always better to get a 1st down, and give yourself 4 extra chance as oppose to just one. There was still plenty of time.
There's definitely a case for this.

Didn't like it because if Tony has any time at all, the option route to Witten or Beasley for that short a distance is almost automatic. It has been all year.

It seemed to me at least, for that play there were no other options and i wonder if that's the case. What if two guys had been down there with Dez? Do we just eat a sack and say oh well?

I liked going for the throat with that coverage.

They needed 6 yards last week and Romo throws 20ish yards for the first.

Nobody is questioning that play.

I dont know what a field goal would have done in that situation. I thought it was the right call. Shocked at how aggressive Garrett has been in the playoffs. I liked it, just didnt work out.

Post concussion disorder there for him then

I heard him say it, but a 50 yd FG from there (where we had already missed once and got the 2nd chance blocked) is hardly a gimmee, not to mention we'd have still been behind and giving the ball back to a team we couldn't stop in the 2nd half.

He normally speaks with sense, but that was one I didn't agree with him on.

Same.

It was a low percentage throw too. I still believe Dez made the catch (or the rules are horrible). But that was a terrible decision based on the magnitude of the play.

. Even worse. Belicek wouldn't have went deep. Neither would have McCarthy. Get the first and eat up clock. Be methodical. Vintage Garrett --- lousy clock and game management.

Some of our shortcomings just came back to bite us in the ass today. Garrett's clock management at the end of the half was horrible. No HC in the world would leave 40 seconds on the clock for Aaron Rodgers. Our D played OK but just couldn't seem to get off the field and we let GB convert way to many 3rd and longs. We also couldn't attack a gimpy, one legged, QB.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Witten gets the first down, called by the line judge standing right there and the call is reversed leading to the FG attempt which Romo bobbled in Seattle. Now this. These games are too often decided by the officials and that's too bad.

I'm a purist when it comes to sports. The Competition Committee has watered down the game tinkering with the rules that can not be called equally across the board because it requires way to much interpretation by refs on the field. In some respects, the NFL has reaped what it sowed.

No one I've seen yet is questioning that decision. We needed to get the 1st down and eat more clock. How do you feel about throwing it deep?

When Romo threw the ball that was the first thing that entered my mind. It was a low percentage throw to be sure. But what you don't want there is a sack or to throw the ball to Clutts with some trick play trying to outsmart GB with the game on the line. Romo went to our playmaker who had single coverage and the throw was good enough to catch (and I believe it was a catch).

Now we all know how the Raiders felt after the "tuck rule" game. That obscure, never before heard rule, changed the history of the game in many respects and the fortunes of Tom Brady and NE. It happens. Personally, I'm done with football for a while.

I hate that we went for it on THAT fourth down when failing to convert essentially costs us the game, but NOT going for it on the 4th and inches near the end of the first.

Makes no sense.

Pretty sure it wasn't "inches", it looked more like a yard + but I do agree with you that going for it would seem to have been the better play.

Yes we have a great kicker and yes getting points when you can are important, but everyone knows GB can score a lot of points. Getting only 3 when the chance was there to get more (or at least convert, get closer and use more of the time) would have seemed to be the better move.
