Like I said, a pattern and his teammates, the coaching staff and the Steelers fans had enough of Pickens. It's only Cowboys fans who think the only job a WR has is to catch the football.

It's like Trevon Diggs thinking his only job was to get interceptions then basically not even trying to tackle Travis Kelce.

SB winning teams have players willing to do the dirty work, not just what gets them on ESPN. The reason it is so important for Pickens is that he is the second WR. He's on the field during run plays. It is maybe less important for your 3rd WR because he might only come in on obvious passing downs depending on the scheme.

Kelvin Martin didn't need to block as often as Alvin Harper. Harper was on the field on the early downs. We are paying Pickens around 30 million!!

So let me ask you something about WR's and blocking.

When you watch a team run almost 40 times for barely 2 yds a carry, and the vast majority of those the RB is stopped at the LOS between the tackles, is that because WR's didnt block?

We've had two good running games all season (148 v Baltimore and 202 v Philly). We didnt even crack 100 in any of the other 6 games. When you have 5 games where you dont even top 75 yards rushing, that isnt a "WR is not blocking" problem.

If only Pickens had run blocked better, maybe Prescott would have thrown this gimmee TD to him.

Mie Tomlin's last postseason win was..........

As for Pickens, when I hear a coach talk about "we need WR's that can block first" I think back to the glory days of that fucking idiot Chan Gailey, who put stonehanded joruneymen types on the field that couldnt run routes or catch a damn cold consistently because "they could block"

You need WR's that get open and catch the fucking football. That's their primary jobs. It's great if WR's also help spring a guy here and there, but you need guys that get open, make plays, make YAC and help score TDs. It's a passing league. Pickens got singled out because of one game where plenty of other guys lacked emotion or effort. There's also plenty of examples where he was doing work downfield blocking for people.
Pickens is not supposed to be a journeyman type. He is supposed to be an elite WR.

Mike Tomlin is extremely well respected. Winning in the post-season also takes luck. Once Big Ben started to deteriorate, they just couldn't get effective QB play.

Of course a WR has to get open, but he has to block too. You can get away with one WR who only catches, you can't have 2 WRs on the field at the same time who only catch.. How do you expect to have a running game?

How do you expect a run to be called if your none of your receivers are blocking? What Troy described wasn't "Oh, he didn't' block on one play."

Everyone wants accountability, but if the coach tries to say, hey, we aren't throwing you the ball until you start doing the other aspects of your job, you get mad a the coach.

So you want a DE who only rushes the QB, a CB who only gets picks, etc? You'll have an average, at best, team.

When you pay a player as much as Pickens is being paid, you have to expect BETTER! I don't; say, "As long as Dak throws TD passes, I'm cool." I have higher standards for someone making 60 million. Same with Pickens. His job also involves blocking.

Do you think Tony Dorsett goes 99 yards without Pearson hustling and blocking?

It's the rare WR who doesn't also need to block, maybe a Randy Moss, maybe a Megatron, but most block as well.

Your coach is trying to establish an identity. He is trying. Failing, but trying. It is NOT about winning ONE or two games. It's about trying to win a championship.

It's been so long since Dallas has been a legit contender that everyone has seemingly forgotten.

Does anyone truly think Tom Landry, Bill Parcells, or Jimmy would put up with a selfish player who doesn't want to do ALL aspects of the job and make that player a starter?

Do you really think Tony Hill would have been a starter if he didn't also block? Jerry Rice was known for being a very good blocker?

Oh and I was curious about Megatron, so...

Your question makes no sense. If the RB is stopped at the LOS, that is either a bad RB, bad OL play, or both. But once the RB gets through the LOS the WRs as well as TEs need to also become blockers. Even OL need to run downfield and block.

It's basic football.

You know that play you didn't like because the OL hustled and had a double block on Downs? Well, the OL was obviously running down field and the WRs were also blocking.

It might happen once in 40 tries, but when it happens, DO YOUR JOB!

Remember the famous Marshawn Lynch run? Everyone, including the QB, did their job and blocked.

Why is this controversial? Why would you want to reward a selfish player who is on record saying he didn't want to vblock to not get hurt, but yet expects others to block for him? What, just so your team can win an extra game or two and go nowhere?
