All they have to do to fix this mess is:

1) Fire Goodell. Has to happen.

2) Apologize to the fans, and promise no more politics in the game. This will include requirements that the networks that carry the games also refrain from any political bias during the broadcast of the games.

3) Enforce rules requiring all players to stand and respect the anthem. If they fail to do it they are assessed a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for the first offense. 2nd offense is an automatic ejection. 3rd is suspension, and on from there.

Doing this would stop the bleeding.
