Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

Lets be careful with stats. Statistics can be deceiving. We're only having this conversation because of 2016. Statistics are just raw numbers, you get nothing else. Barring 2016, we're not left with much. I think it has more to do with him being our best chance to win now than anything...

    2019 Pre Season thread

That play that got tipped and Dak caught his own pass, it looked like he was going to #89. Had it not been tipped it would have been picked off at the goal line.

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

If Dak is looking for that kind of money the Cowboys can be in serious trouble if they pay it out. They won't be able to hold on to key players and be stuck with a slightly above average QB. Still the Cowboys have a problem. They need a QB. They better start looking into his replacement if...

Without Zeke, What Does The RB Group Look Like?

Unfortunately that isn't going to matter much. All he would lose is unrestricted free agency. He would still be a restricted free agent. Teams like Miami, Detroit, or San Francisco can still offer him a contract the Cowboys would have to match. He would still get a boatload of cash, which is...

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

I can't speak for him, but I would say absolutely not. But you're using a terrible QB as an example. I think Dak is good, but I think the talent on this team dresses him up a bit. Take the 2011, '12, and '13 teams. I don't believe Dak wins 8 games in any of those seasons. Lucky he wins 6...

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

I agree with you. But I think the concern is paying Dak a cap crippling contract, a contract he isn't worth. If the Cowboys lose or can't pay good players due to this it could be seen as throwing away the life of Dak's contract. Which would be worse than 1-3 years.

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

If the Cowboys can pull off 10 wind last year, they should be able to do pretty good this year. Problem is keeping the team in tact. Dak is not the type of QB that can make up for losing good players as a result of his cap hit. He gets by due to the players around him.

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

Basically because you can only use one or the other. But the year prior to the new CBA will allow the use of both in a single season. I forget if that's this year or next. But in most years teams will choose the franchise tag instead of transition. All the transition tag does is allow other...

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

Like I said, with the transition tag there are no picks attached. Dallas gets nothing if they don't match the offer. That would allow Dak to get full market value from any team willing to pay him. But I think Dallas won't do that and pay him some ridiculous sum that no other team would be...

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

Under the Transition tag he'll make the average of the top 10 players at his position as opposed to the franchise tag which is top 5. So that should save some money. The other difference between the two tags is that if the Cowboys choose not to match best offer from another team, Dallas gets...

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

With so few teams in the market for a starting QB right now, wouldn't it be a better idea to just transition tag him? It would be a lot cheaper. What are the chances that the 1 team, possibly two teams looking for a starter would offer Dak something Dallas wouldn't be willing to match? The...

22-1 isn't high enough to risk money on the Cowboys. There are other teams in that range better suited.

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

Some good points in that article. Although I think they all play a role, I don't think that is the primary reason things are made easier for the QBs. The salary cap has watered down teams, and defenses have taken the biggest hit. We rarely see monster defenses anymore. Take 2013 for example...

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

I'd cut it to Cinci and maybe Tampa. It looks like the Raiders are going to ride Carr because his deal isn't looking so bad now, and Dak isn't an upgrade worth the extra cost. Denver drafter Lock, no way they offer Dak a monster deal. That's not a lot of competition left over.

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

Agreed. We see this happen over and over again. But they do it because they feel if they don't, someone else will. I was asking literally, what team(s) are in the market for a starting QB that might possibly pay Dak that kind of money if Dallas does not? Aren't most teams pretty much set at QB?

Who Here is Not Entirely Sold on Dak Prescott?

I know they're going to end up paying him some ridiculous amount. But I'm curious about one thing. How many teams right now are in the market for a starting QB that would pay Dak 30M a year if Dallas doesn't?

    2019 Draft thread

At 90 it might be a good value. I just think better players might still be available like TE Knox. Some pretty good WRs as well. These guys are dropping because of the defensive talent in this draft. I'm just not sure we should be reaching at the defensive line.

    2019 Draft thread

I know we're not trading into the first round, let alone top 10. That would decimate this year's and next year's draft. I noticed you mentioned Hill in the next post. I saw that too. I wouldn't even take him at 90. There will be better players available.

    2019 Draft thread

I'm with you on this one. But what does it typically cost to move from 58 into the top 10? I don't think Dallas could do it with picks alone. I don't see a way to get there without giving up multiple players and decimating the rest of this year's draft and the better part of the next year's...

It obviously doesn't translate into making the players any better.
