Pat Kirwin on McCarron, other draft notes

Yeah, with Garrett's buddy Cameron and Jerry's buddy Miles at LSU, we don't even need to personally visit with Mettenberger.

Watkins: beyond the first rd DE's

Agree with both. Is Jeffcoat just considered too small? He's a rare UT player that I'd take. Unlike most of them he seems to have a good motor.

Archer: beyond the first rd- safeties

Ha, no, that's the difference IMO. Heath is probably a little better athlete, but Zimmerman is smart and was productive. He made a bunch of INTs in his career.

Archer: beyond the first rd- safeties

What do you guys think about Ty Zimmerman? Just another Heath?

Pick 47: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State

Like... They literally are different players? I hope they knew that. If they drafted him because of Witten, they were drafting for need, and that's almost always a bad idea. Escobar makes me realize that might be a draft axiom: Don't draft slow-footed soft players. If you're a tremendous...

Pick 47: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State

I don't think there's anything wrong with using a pick on a TE, just not a very high one. I thought John Phillips was pretty decent for where he was drafted -- tough, pretty good special teamer and blocker, only a 6th rounder spent. Sure, there's nothing wrong with using a 2nd rounder if a guy...

    Gruden on QB's

Did he ever really pass on a good one, though? Meaning, did he have a chance to draft a really good prospect but didn't because he thought they couldn't play? He was there long enough that maybe he did, but I can't really remember. But I bet if he were being honest he never really thought...

Pick 47: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State

Like I think junk said a long time ago... We could have just held on to Scott Chandler for our second TE and saved all those 2nd rounders.

Herschel Walker believes he could still play in the NFL today

I dunno, he looks kind of fat and weak.

Herschel Walker believes he could still play in the NFL today

LOL He probably just made Jerry's hit list, too. Watch your back, Herschel.

    *** 2014 NFL Draft thread ***

LOL Let's face it, even if it would be fun, we aren't getting JFF. He's going to beat us in London instead. :awkward

Pat Kirwin on McCarron, other draft notes

I do think he's better than those previous Bama QBs, but not by enough to make him a good NFL QB. For instance, look at that Sugar Bowl game. When he got some pressure, he pretty much immediately threw the ball away. It's almost like he was trained too well in the Saban "don't ever turn it...

Pick 47: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State

I didn't like the pick, and I think he's always going to be kind of soft. But I have to admit, he did show some very good hands at the end of last year.

Gil Brandt on Lesser Known Pro Day Risers

Not that I pay a lot of attention to him, but Gil seems more about propping up his friends and acquaintances than coldly analyzing players anymore. He's always talking about how he first met so-and-so player when he was in 8th grade, or how he's known the family for 20 years, or whatever. But...
