Well boys and girl, I will be heading to Texas in a couple weeks with a buddy for a BBQ trail type excursion into.

I figured I should warn you all ahead of time.

We were planning this trip and trying to figure out which spots are must go to type BBQ joints. Then my buddy springs two tickets to the Cowboys vs Titans game on me.

So apparently I’ll be going to my first home Cowboy game. I’ve seen them a couple of times at Sofi in LA. But never at AT&T in Texas.

We are staying in Austin because that is centralized to where most of the bbq spots that we want to hit are located such as Franklins and Leroy and Lewis, Intersteller and LA Barbecue.

We will be taking a trip down to Lockhart for Kruez and Terry Blacks, then Seguin for Burnt Bean Co, then Taylor at some point for Louie Muellers.

On the way to the game we will stop by Snow’s in Lexington on our way up to the stadium. Then spending the night before the game.

We will be in Texas for a week.

Are there any must stop BBQ joints that you Texans recommend we stop at that I have not mentioned?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Wow...that sounds like a good time hitting up all those spots. The downside of your trip, unfortunately, will be the game.

100%

I never even thought about catching the game. My buddy was the one that figured if we are nearby and there is a Cowboy game that it would be dumb not to make it. So he just bought the tickets and then let me know afterwards

And he HATES the Cowboys

Thanks

I doubt we will make it to Dallas in time. We are stopping by Snows on the way up to Arlington on Saturday. By the time we make Dallas I’m sure he will either be gone or sold out.

Will do.

I’m looking forward to it. My only problem is I have heard about all the bbq places and seen videos and shows with them featured. Which of course the ppl are going to say that they are amazing. But those are all produced shows or YouTube content. So how much can I actually trust their opinion on how good these places are.

That’s why I was asking on here for the ppl that live in Texas. I’m hoping ppl chime in and can say this place is good, that one isn’t, you might want to skip this one on the list and try this one instead.

At least I know you all aren’t biased or getting paid for your opinions on the food

There's millions of us who hold that Austin and the Metroplex really have little in common with Texas. Might as well be Milwaukee and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Houston might as well be Cleveland. So, we live in Texas but we avoid the scabby urban areas. I'm 400 miles from Dallas, 525 miles from Austin and 850 miles from Houston. In Texas. It ain't New Hampshire.

In all honesty, all the places I've tried taste substantially the same. The only thing I ever notice is if a place has tough and/or dry meat or ribs that you cant easily pull from the bone or bad BBQ sauces. If they get a good smoke and its tender and juicy, I think it would be hard to tell one apart from the other unless you had them all side by side and meticulously compared them so I suspect if you go to places with a great reputation, you're probably going to be happy with everything but the wait

That’s pretty much what I’m expecting from this trip. I’m curious if I’m going to love them all. Or if there will be some duds. Or more importantly if one is going to stand out above the rest.

My main concern is missing out on a place that I’m not aware of.

I do know three of the places we are hitting up are Michelin Star BBQ spots. So I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

Take all the California transplants that have moved to Texas back with you when you go back home! That being said, sounds like a fun trip minus the Cowboys game.
