This team stinks like a crate full of them too. Another humiliating home defeat against a team that on paper was nowhere near as good as we were. They have two home losses to teams with losing records and are withing a Brandon Aubrey 64 yd FG of having three. This team is a complete shitshow and failure. There's a 1% chance they make the playoffs now (which means they are basically eliminated).
1) For the first time, I am thinking there's a real chance Schottenheimer is one and done here. They were completely inept in almost every way last night. Everyone with a functioning pair of eyes knew what Brian Flores would do defensively and the Cowboys looked as if they'd never seen it before. Perhaps going against the creampuff defense of Eberdouche everyday in practice makes it impossible to game plan offensively. Whatever it is, it was a joke last night. Prescott was lucky to survive. The Lions and Vikings games were both massive failures, as were losses to Arizona, Carolina and nearly the lowly Giants (WITH Russell Wilson at QB). I wanted him to be the guy and he's super likable, but he isn't the guy. Last nights game planning and play calling were both atrocious, and that falls back on him.
2) I have no idea how Eberdouche could still be employed this morning. Another completely inept failure defensively, he's masterminded the worst defense in franchise history. He's unquestionably the worst coaching staff hire any team made in the league this year. His pass coverages and rush schemes are as pathetic as anyone has ever seen. Hardly blitzed one of the lowest rated QB's in the league. And after rushing only THREE guys for the biggest play of the game (4th and 3 at our 37 trailing 23-17) he should have been escorted off the sideline. Worst assistant coach in the league and it isnt even close.
3) You know it's a bad day at the office when the Robot Aubrey misses not one, but TWO fg's indoors. The 59 yarder wasn't even close (arguably the worst kick he's ever attempted). Schottenheimer has gone far too conservative and in several of our losses has been too quick to settle for FG's, even though he knows he has the worst defense in the league on our sideline. Our ST coach Sorensen is almost as bad as Eberdunce is and should be moved as far away from Aubrey as possible asap before he ruins him. He's already ruined Turpin, who has turned into one of the biggest dipshits I've ever seen back there returning punts. Seems he badly botches a fair catch or return situation at LEAST once a game, and it always leaves us in terrible field position.
4) Terrence Steele had another complete FAIL of a game in pass protection. I realize Guyton (and others) being injured impacts this some, but he needs to be benched, for good. He's just really bad. Even on one 3rd down play he had help and STILL got turnstiled by the Vikes DE. Nathan Thomas probably better than he was v Detroit, but he wasn't great either.
5) They finally started Logan Wilson at MLB, but I am reasonably sure Kenneth Murray ended up with more snaps, again. And he was awful, as usual. Completely running out of numerous plays by going the wrong way and a complete missed tackle machine. Who lets this guy on the field? It's obvious that he is the worst player on our team, why is he still allowed to play?
6) Bad game for Caelen Carson, who got beat like a drum on a couple big plays and then had a knucklehead 15 yd penalty on another. It's not all his fault, he plays for the biggest cunt defensive coordinator ever who won't do anything different to help generate a pass rush, but it was a step backwards for him last night.
7) Javonte Williams continues to be a bright spot on what is now a giant shitstain season. Missed most of the first half and still ended up with 91 yds on 15 carries, came back in for 2nd half out of necessity (Luepke hurt, Davis clueless on who to block in pass pro) despite being banged up pretty good and played well. Would have prob rushed for 130-150 had he played the whole game. Now has career highs in rushing yards (1113) rushing attempts (230) yds per carry (4.8) and touchdowns (10 rushing and 2 more receiving). Great addition to the team. Hopefully we can keep him.
8) Vikes pass rushers Andrew Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard combined for 7 QB knockdowns on Prescott last night. Our entire defensive team had 1. Total, Dallas D has forced 3 punts in the last 2 games.
9) We've now played 14 games. The Cowboys have held an opponent under 21 pts ONE TIME all season (Raiders with 16). 7 times an opponent has score 30+. 3 games a team has scored 40 or more.
10) Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think getting Hunter Luepke the ball does more would possibly help open up the offense even more. He's more athletic and seems like a guy that can make a little more out of rushes/receptions than the TE's typically do.. He's grossly under-utilized IMO. Seems like he'd be a really nice short yardage/GL option and he has really nice hands to catch the ball. He's still a little hit and miss as a pure blocker but he definitely adds some playmaking skill to the O.
11) Haven't seen the snap counts yet, as noted above it seems like waste of time Murray was "benched" finally, but still ended up netting more snaps than the "starters". Also, what happened to James Houston? He was active and yet was a no show in the box score, leads the team in sacks yet I hardly recall seeing him on the field. Another Eberdouche gameplan FAIL.
At this point I think we lose out or at best win 1 of 3. This season is a complete flop on many levels, and with some of the moves they made they should be better. At a minimum they have to completely redo the defense and as I stated above I'm not sure Schottenheimer warrants giving another year to yet. If he does come back the leash has to be REALLY short with him I'd think. They've certainly had some injuries and we've had a lot of guys lose games to IR, but Prescott has stayed healthy and been pretty good. They key guys are all mostly healthy now, and the results are awful. I'm never one to "want" Philly wins, but I'll be hoping they win next Saturday to officially end the Cowboys season. From there the focus should be on seeing guys with a potential future here playing and scrubs like Murray benched permanently or just outright released. It also would be a good idea to see Joe Milton play some. They have to start thinking about life without Prescott and they need to learn as much about Milton now as possible. They might need to draft someone early in April.
