Indeed.

But thats their great plan almost every yr, and its why they are stuck in a huge turd lake every yr and never get better.

I always thought he would end up back on the team this season.

I guess Mazi better start putting some weight back on pretty quickly because it looks like we are going to be counting on him more than I would like to have to

"nowhere near what Jerry gave up"

The other teams were AFC teams and reportedly offered a 6th rd pick. I'm sure the Niners strong preference was to move Lance out of the NFC. So of course the Cowboys were going to have to offer a little more.

And I do think we all know why they did it now. They knew about this Prescott case.

Its a 4th rd fucking pick. JFC some of you (including dumbass Zoners) act like we traded away multiple early picks or something. Will he work out? I have no idea. But he is young, he is talented, he's big, he has a very strong arm and he is also very athletic. He didnt flop miserably in the NFL, he got hurt a couple of times and the Niners found a gem and decided to roll with that. I'd rather take a chance on a guy like that (speaking of Lance) in most cases than some mediocre talent type player who was drafted sometime on day three.
Knowing about Dak's case, okay. I see that. Fine. But perhaps it was a panic move given the many other options that emerged in the offseason.

What about Gardner Minshew?

Did they think the charges were going to be brought last year?

What about Minshew? We know what he is. He's a slightly more talented Cooper Rush for far more money. He has no chance whatsoever to ever be a legit starting QB.

Did they think charges would be brought last yr? No probably not. But they knew they had upcoming contract negotiations with him and that the league would eventually start looking at this, and then planned accordingly. Getting a young, talented guy that they had rated fairly high for a day three pick. Then he had all year to sit and learn the system and learn more about how to be a NFL QB.

We shall see. Based on what I have seen, I do not like the trade. If Lance had more time as a starter, similar to Kenny Pickett, then there would be more to say, "okay, I see some talent there." But what my eyes show me is a QB that Shanahan was protecting--roll outs, safe passes. Have you watched some YouTube highlights? And those are the highlights.

Perhaps Lance has really improved, it's not impossible. Although how much does a QB really improve nowadays holding the clipboard or running the scout team? As you mentioned in another post, practice is not the same as it used to be. Tony Romo got a chance to show what he had in practice. Can a QB really do the same nowadays as the number 3?

Lance has to LEGITAMATELY beat out Rush this year. Can you at least agree with me on that? Lance has to show that he can throw from the pocket and on time. Not a lot of roll outs and always moving the pocket.

At least with a guy like Pickett (and I'm using him because I think the Eagles gave up a 3rd, but I think the Eagles got a 4th round pick and Pickett out of it. Give up a 3rd, but get back a 4th and the player. Seems fair. Plus, the Eagles got two 2025 7th round picks). There is a good amount of in-game film on Pickett playing under different conditions against different types of defenses.

There is more projection involved with Lance. I don't like the trade. I think we paid over MSRP and I won't pay over MSRP if I can just go down the street and buy another car close to, if not, even better.

I'm interested to see who the Niners (or which players go slightly after) the Niners pick, who we could have had.

These highlights below?

Cooper Rush is not making almost any of these types of throws. Lance has a really strong arm and while this is a "highlight" video, it shows a guy that has + arm talent making some really accurate throws, many into tight windows. The ball placement is also outstanding. And then there's the athletic part of him, he can put the ball down and make plays with his legs He's big, he's storng, he has major league arm talent and while he doesnt have extensive playing time, he also shows he can take are of the football.

We gave up a 4th rd pick for this guy. I see absolutely nothing to be belly aching about. He's vastly more talented than any other QB we could draft on day three this year.

As far as beating out Cooper Rush, the only way Lance doesnt do that is if he gets hurt.

Interesting video.

Trey Lance & Akili Smith Are IDENTICAL

Just stop with this nonsense dude.

Akili Smith was 5-13 as a starter, had a CAREER completion % of 46.6% and threw 13 picks vs 5 tds, and had a CAREER yds per attempt of 4.8 yds.

Smith is arguably one of the worst players in NFL history and may very well be considering where he was drafted.

He and Lance are nothing alike from a football perspective.

I give up a 4th rounder for a potential starting QB with Lance's skill set all day, every day. Having said that, I didn't see a throw that Lance made that Cooper couldn't make. But Lance is a superior athlete that gives you another dimension. All things being equal, I keep Lance unless he completely bombs in the pre-season.

yeah, in regard to the throws in the video, i didnt wanna be the first one to say it, but that trey lance highlight video was more of a kyle shanahan highlight video. every receiver had 5 yds of space. the 2 contested throws that lance makes are on what looks like crossers where the receiver has a step on the defender

i will say that it looks like lance is at least leading receivers, not throwing behind them like dak does

I think both of you Amigo's need to take a closer look at that video then (or several others I found on YouTube)

Cooper Rush does not have that kind of arm strength/zip on his throws, and not all those throws are to guys that are "wide open". he also has a few throws where the ball placement to the receiver/s is really, really good.

I have no idea if he'd ever turn into anything but I like the risk of a day three pick for someone with that size, arm strength, athletic ability, decision making and he did win big in college.

I'll see your 3 minute Lance highlight video and raise you a 7 minute Rush....

Now, don't get me wrong....Rush is not a starting caliber NFL franchise QB. And no one is going to confuse Rush as a (possible) future franchise but that's what we're doing with Lance. Like Cup said, that was a Shannahan video, just like Cooper's highlights are a MM video; one read and a cloud of dust. We don't know how well Lance can read a D and I have yet to really see him scan the field and find his open man. We've dumbed down the QB position.
