I was/am a Crosby guy but Miller's a better starting point edge than Gary who had an extreme decline last year after Micah's Injury.
Even if Miller is 10 years older than Gary too.

Hopefully it won't be another one of those Cowboys acquisitions of a name, that by the time in his career that he reached the Boys, was all out of juice.
9 sacks last year is somewhat comforting in that regard.
I think Gary is going to surprise a lot of Cowboy fans. Is he a superstar? No definitely not. But he's a solid player. He's also reportedly dropped some weight to bring back some mobility. He was pretty much a down 4-3DE guy for GB and weighed well into the 270's.

He's been consistent as a pass rusher, getting between 7 1/2 and 9/12 sacks in 4 of the last 5 yrs, and the one he didnt get that many he had 6 in 9 games in 2022.He's also an excellent run defender.

Mine wasn't a whole body of work observation of the player but more a what have you done for me lately type and Gary's last 10 games "after" Micahs injury departure saw an extreme decrease in overall pressures, fast pressure win rate and of course ZERO sacks without Micah while putting up 7.5 his first 7 games with Micah. He basically disappeared and was set to be cut before our infamous GM swooped in to give up a 4th rd pick as he's been know to do.
Oh well, maybe he can do something while having Miller on the other side now.
Fingers crossed.

Looks like they decided Cornelius (RG last week) didnt cut the mustard at all.

I thought Thomas was the worst and Shelton has been trying to learn RT (he has not looked natural at it all of camp), so but they flipped those two. Bass goes to RG.

Ugh. This definitely does not keep me as optimistic after seeing how declining a performance picture this paints as to Miller's last year's performance.

I wasn the biggest fan of the edge group's ability to get home prior to Miller's signing but I thought, no I hoped, he could at least provide what Clowney did last year.
Now Im not so sure.

Well, they brought him in to be a complementary guy, not the guy. If Gary has a bad season, that would be much worse.

He'll be the one complementing the opponent after they kick our collective asses instead of Ginger?

It sounds like Parker and the DL coaches/LB coach really wanted him, so maybe what they are seeing something from him on film last yr that is at least somewhat appealing. It's not like they did this "all of the sudden", all the parties involved said there had been ongoing talks for weeks, maybe even longer.

That said, anyone expecting double digit sacks and being someone other teams "game plan around" are def going to be disappointed. He said himself today he's probably a 15-20 play a game guy.

Cowboys-Saints practice is about to start.

Schottenheimer said it wont be as physical/extensive as the Rams scrimmage last week but still expects good work to get put in.
