Okay entirely different topic. Getting off my LB kick for now. Let’s talk about our offensive tackles. Both of them scare the crap out of me. Guyten and Steele are suspect at best. We have zero quality depth behind both of those. Guyten already has an injured elbow and will miss games this season . I personally think he is on his way out after this season as well as Steele. We will be drafting O linemen next year … bank on it. In the meantime I do see a real scenario where Smith is moved to left tackle and Bass is inserted at Guard. The truth of the matter is that lineup is probably the best lineup and the way to go in my opinion. Maybe even bench Steele and move Guyton back over to right tackle where he played in college if he is healthy. We are very skinny with backups after that. So my question to DCU participants is this. First what is your opinion about my take? Secondly do you think we should be actively looking for an upgrade at swing tackle. We are in a boatload of trouble if we are relying on Nate Thomas in my opinion. Certainly an area of weakness that needs immediate attention . Let me know your thoughts.
Guyton has been really good so far and all indicators are the arrow is pointing way up for him. Dude has totally changed his body too. He needs to stay healthy and if he does, we'll be fine there. I also trust these OL coaches. Adams and Riley are top-notch.
RT is another story altogether.
I do think one of the moves we'll make before Week 1 is a proven swing tackle, one with starting exp and I absolutely won't be surprised if Steele is finally benched at some point, maybe even the first month of the season.
