Is Downs overrated? Sadly, yes. He's definitely smallish for the position, and he had a paltry number of INTs and forced fumbles at Bama and OSU. When we drafted him, the first thing Saban said was that he was a great person, not a great player. Very revealing. Then there's the inconvenient fact that the so-called "best defensive player in the draft" fell all the way to 11. The Jones boys done been hoodwinked again. :sad2:

I wish Downs was a little taller, but can't complain.
I want BB to write on the chalk board "I will not bash Caleb Downs" 1000 times.

By the way, Downs is essentially the same size as Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu. (Downs is actually slightly taller)

I forgot to DVR this show last night on ESPN. Looks like they are uploading most of the clips though.

Signed after the rookie mini-camp this past weekend. Was a starter at Purdue that transferred to USC but didnt have eligibility left and had to sit out 2026.

6'4, 316lbs, looks like he mainly plays LG/RG

I would not have minded Allen at all. I wanted him at green dot actually and would not have been disappointed by a some perceived overdraft at #20.

The BullDog DC interview I read said that sometimes he, the DC, actually stayed silent on defensive play calls and that Allen would call the whole thing from the field.
That really stuck with me and after having experienced Kenneth No Instincts Murray in the middle I was so anxious to get a second level difference maker.
Just my opinion.

According to multiple reports Downs on day fucking 1 of rookie mini camp already had the defense down, was directing others where to line up, and was teaching other rookies the defense

This kid might be what he was projected to be. The smartest guy on the field day one.

If the reports keep up like this I might have to just break my rule of not giving Jerruh another dime till they win something. I might have to head to training camp in Oxnard this year just to see this kid in person for myself

Is it me or is BB showing the same level of animus with Downs that I have with Dak?
Not possible.

When we winda soup bow you'll be saying the defense carried the D-minus QB who threw for 400 yards had four pass TDs one on the ground no turnovers and was named the game MVP.

If Dak makes it to the SB and is named MVP, I'll come to your tumbleweed garden town and buy you a huge steak and some cold beer. And that invite goes out to the other 5 guys here. But the invite doesn't extend to BB's girlfriend.....that woman would eat 32 oz bone in rib eyes like they were part of a buffet.

That's nice and all but it doesn't include a Dak mea culpa on your part. No hat eating or crow eating.

This can't be a serious question. You're asking me for a mea culpa on my part when I'm the consistent poster who's been right on this bum for years. It's been 10 years. 10 freaking years. And self proclaimed football fanatics and hard core fans like yourself are still debating this guy like we have no body of work to make an informed decision. You keep hoping CP or moving the pawns on the chess board are going to change the end result. I don't believe it will. The sad part is I believe our D will be vastly improved but I also know the guy under center is going to wilt because he simply cannot carry the team.

But because I try to be an honest broker, I'll answer your question/comment; if Dak was to win the SB and be SB MVP, I'd be calling for him to go into the RoH and singing his praises, just like I've done consistently when he's played well. The real question is when will guys like you be convinced that this bum isn't the answer? I mean, it's been 10 years. You're like the cuck who's old lady has been sleeping around with everyone but you still want to give her (another) chance after chance hoping she lives up to the illusion of what you thought she once was. Sad.
