Aikman and Irvin recently put into words why I knew on
March 29, 1994, from the pit of my stomach and deep recesses of my soul, the Cowboys were doomed for the rest of my lifetime (and probably well beyond). The reason I felt this way is because winning football cannot be accomplished by one man who sucks all the oxygen out of the room for his own selfish desires and insecurity. You could perhaps get by with a player like that on the back end of your roster but never at GM. I believe the teams that win are able to put together a group of talented coaches, who coach hard, players with great work ethic when properly cultivated by players and coaches, creates a winning culture with, as Michael Irvin describes, a "collective will" resulting in a formidable team, tough to beat. We had that for an all too brief but beautiful span of time in the 90's
I dont believe the GM of the Cowboys places any value on any of the above and has specifically scoffed at the notion of culture.
He's also proud of overpaying which is antithetical to building the best team under the constraints of a salary cap.
Its why we're here 30+ years and counting with zippo in the success department and no hope anywhere on the horizon but hey at least 31 other teams are ecstatic:
