What does this mess mean? Trump on Desantis:

Sounds kind of douchey, wth is he thinking?
Trump on Desantis running against HIM in 2024 would hurt Desantis politically. Pretty simple context.

Well, following it up with this kind shit complicates context:

“I would tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering — I know more about him than anybody — other than, perhaps, his wife,” Trump said.

I loved that tore holes through both parties leading up to his election, but I don't think Desantis is a RINO. It's a little too early for that shit. I hope he runs, I hope he wins. I'd rather he stop shitting on every one in sight.

He doesn't see the reality of needing allies.

We can only hope. (on both accounts)

That said, if Trump doesn't run DeSantis clearly will, and he will win in a landslide.

I am convinced by the 2022 election results that Trump cannot win if he runs for president. He will win the deep red states, but I think he has no chance to win in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, and Georgia. Without these states he cannot win enough electoral votes given the deep blue states of CA, NJ, MA and NY will never vote for him.

The best chance Republicans have, and it may be the only chance they have left for a generation, is for someone else to get the nomination and Trump to fade away so that the TDS that afflicts a large number of Americans fades with him.

Nothing against Trump, I agree with most of his policies, but we have to face reality. Deserved or not Trump is a polarizing figure, and he is partly to blame for that. He did a good job running the country, but for many voters, that is not enough to overcomes their dislike for him personally.

The other issue for Republicans is abortion. Like it or not, the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade gave the Democrats an issue to energize their voters. Several states had put some kind of abortion rights propositions on their state ballots to drive voter turnout. Democrats successfully use abortion to get out the vote.

It looks like Republicans will take the House although I keep reading that is not a certainty yet. and the Senate may be another 50-50 tie. What they need to do is get focused on the issues people care about, back off the abortion issue, and try to keep Biden from damaging the country any further.

My fear is given a small majority in congress or the Senate, there are still enough RINOs to stab their party in the back and pass harmful legislation with the Democrats.

TERM LIMITS

NO MORE CAREER POLITICIANS

Anyone who goes to Washington for a career is only thinking about himself and not the people he is supposed to be representing. Getting re-elected becomes his job and that includes bending over for the party leaders who dole out money and support come election time. The same is true for big donors. Term limits ends some of the corruption in Washington.

Anytime anyone says they've been a senator or congressperson for 20 years or more is by definition a con artist.

I think you're speaking some sense but I also think it's a knee jerk reaction. The one thing about Trump is that he'll energize the base and make no mistake about it, the base right now is America First/MAGA. These mid-terms lie squarely on the incompetence of McDaniels, McCarthy and McConnell. All 3 need to go and they would rather lose supporting a RINO than win with a MAGA and Trump endorsed Republican.

Couple the above with mail in ballots and ballot harvesting by the left and all the mid-term results showed me is that this may be the new norm and Republicans may never win the White House again. The Dems play chess and the RINO's in charge are playing checkers and they're all to happy to play along to keep their perceived power, influence and money.

Jesus himself could have come down from the heavens and Fetterman would have still won PA. McConnell abandoning Mastriano and other MAGA Republicans was outrageous. The BB piece below, while satire, it absolutely truthful......

Don't get me wrong Creeper, I'd like to see what DeSantis can do. But DeSantis running against Trump in the primaries will end his presidential aspirations and would only benefit the Dems. Trump and DeSantis would probably bloody each other and dirty up both candidates. In a perfect world, Trump and DeSantis form a ticket but Trump's ego would never allow it and DeSantis won't hinge his political future on running with Trump. Conservatives are in a real pickle.....

What they do about the potential Trump/DeSantis showdown is going to loom huge for 2024. They need to do some real soul searching and find some reasonable compromises.

They won't do it (and not sure if Trump would either) but convincing Trump to take the Speaker of the House role is NOT a bad idea. He can still be incredibly influential within the party (and politics in general) and would pave the way for a smooth nomination for DeSantis in 2024.

I wasn't really looking for a Trump/DeSantis primary. That would be bad for the party and the country. Trump is 76 years old now and will be 78 in 2024. It is too old for Biden and I think it will be too old for Trump. Nobody has beaten father time and Trump won't beat him either. So we need to plan for the post Trump years. DeSantis is the future of the party. It may be time to elevate him now. I worry about Trump's departure whenever it comes. I worry that he will burn everything down on his way out.

That's a pipe dream dbair. This is also where the Republican leadership sucks. I guarantee you the Dem leadership has a plan for 2024. They had a plan for 2020 that started after 2016 and they had one for 2022. That plan may involve criminal and/or unethical conduct but they have a plan. Trump is the gorilla in the room and he's probably going to run.

McConnell has to go. He is passive aggressive, and unwilling to unite the party. We need a fighter to lead Republicans in the senate. There are times when a guy like McConnell is good to have. He knows how to work the Senate system. But the Republican party is fighting for its life. McConnell is not the guy to lead the charge. Also, he is another Octogenarian. We need more youth and vigor.
