Y'all might not know I'm a former oil patch roundsman/foreman. Still have friends working in oil. Here is what's happening right now.
Like in the late 70s, we're capping the top producing wells. Taking down pump jacks and storing them, compressing our operations. Layoffs are coming as soon as this "busy work" starts to taper off. Needless to say this is using driller and roughneck personnel to do this, then they'll be cut loose.
We're starting with the most productive sites, the old legacy "wateroil" sites that got us through the 80s will be left pumping. We'll choose a couple of hands to keep on and train as roundsmen, and hunker down to weather the shitstorm.
And we'll be very gunshy to restart. Gonna need to see the price per barrel get above 20 bucks and stay there for some months before we start thinking about opening back up.
It's the way of it at this kind of time.

We will never see prices like that in CA again because we pay 73 cents per gallon in taxes
Why is that you ask? The majority of that gas tax per gallon is supposed to go towards fixing our fucked up roads. Yet we have the worst roads in the country

It was only one place I saw that at, most of the places here are 1.59 or so I think for regular right now.
