Like I said, with the transition tag there are no picks attached. Dallas gets nothing if they don't match the offer. That would allow Dak to get full market value from any team willing to pay him. But I think Dallas won't do that and pay him some ridiculous sum that no other team would be willing to pay. I'd bet on it.

DoH, Brain fart on my part thanks for clarifying and I agree jeri & spawn wont use either

wonder why teams don't use the transition tag much, i don't recall hearing it being used by anyone, wonder if it pisses off the player and makes them more likely to hold out

Basically because you can only use one or the other. But the year prior to the new CBA will allow the use of both in a single season. I forget if that's this year or next. But in most years teams will choose the franchise tag instead of transition. All the transition tag does is allow other teams to offer your player a contract. In most cases that will cost you more to match than if you worked out a deal. But I'm thinking the opposite is true in Dak's case. Jerry will offer him more than any other team is willing to pay.

Also consider the NFL isn't a football sim. If it were, this would be a no brainer. But owners and GMs far too often worry about the fragile sensibilities of the players with their egos, pride, and any negative message they might send. Making Dak play out this year and putting him on a transition tag next year sends him a clear message.

What would Belichick do?

Either get Dak under contract under his terms or would have already traded him for multiple high picks. I'd love to see how Belichick would evaluate Dak.

I don't trust myself, Cowboy fans or jeri & spawn to do an accurate analysis

I think Bill would actually love Dak. He’s a good leader, he’s a “toe the line” type of player, responds well to coaching, and does turn the ball over much.

I kind of get that feeling too but I think he'd still toe the line on his salary demands or let him walk (or trade him)

Not if he had Tom Brady of course not. We’ve never seen Bill in that position though, to have decide whether or not to “break the bank” for a QB. He’s always been in a great position where his QB is always willing to take less money because his wife makes more money than he does.

can i just remind you guys who dak's head coach is ???

the coach whose offense did not score a td in the 1st half of the senior bowl (dak's gus bradley-coached south team beat garrett's north team and dak was MVP)

and the coach of the most recent pro bowl, where the NFC offense only scored 7 points (dak threw the only TD for the nfc)

it doesnt matter if you give garrett all-stars, he is still a useless turd of a head coach

All the Dak apologists are darn funny........
They use team stats to act like Dak is actually good. We didnt beat the saints because of Dak. We scored ZERO points the 2nd half, but but but Dak beat drew brees! ?‍♀️

I wasn’t aware that points only count in the 2nd half. It’s too bad those 1st half points didn’t count, he might actually have to get some credit.

i realized that all of this is a moot point because the next qb of the cowboys will be this guy:

i was joking but would you honestly be surprised if jerry drafted his grandson ?

My bad, I was looking at the twitter handle and not thinking that it was John Stephen Jones (or Not Spaulding). And no that would not surprise me at all. He’s not only the future QB but also the future OC, then HC, then owner/GM.

Our defense won that game. We scored 10 points.
